Looking at purchasing an Intech enclosed trailer for hauling my car around. Had been shopping through a bunch of manufacturers and keep coming back to Intech.

Looking for any feedback on the trailer build and feel free to throw pricing my way if you are a dealer. Sent a bunch of emails out today to see what I can find for the cheapest price. The biggest thing is going to be the wait to get this thing.

I bought an inTec 26' trailer 2 years ago from Tony Ellliots Trailer Sales in Warsaw Indiana. I have used it for my 3000# bracket race car and shorty golf cart, towing with my 1/2 ton Silverado. I have nothing bad to say about the trailer. I optioned some custom items and they were happy to work with me. I took 3 months over the winter to decide on what trailer and options. Build time was a little longer then quoted, but no other surprises. Built by Amish craftsman in Nappanee Indiana. I asked for and got daily pictures of the build. I did have one issue after purchase and had to return the trailer to the factory. Waited overnight and took it back home next day.

I have gotten tag trailers & also 53' Semi Style race trailers from places that charge $500,000 for them and my Intech is nicer then most. The guys at Intech were great to work with and did all the custom little things I wanted to add with out any type of back lash on it. All in all a great experience. My 1 regret was I didn't get an electric jack so think about that when getting building yours.

Brad at RPM Trailers is a great place to work with and I'm sure you will find that with about any one of the dealers.

The one thing I do ask or want to mention is be sure to buy from or support a real trailer retailer. I don't think Intech has many or any non retail style places as dealers but support the people that have a real store and deal with it every single day. If you were to have a problem then you have someplace to go. These people that sell from a desk at home and have no skin in the game don't care. Play it safe and pay a few bucks more and support a real store or someone that supports drag racing.

Just sent Brad an email to look for a quote. I have a couple quotes so far, all from trailer sales companies.

I ordered an Intech trailer which was completed on time in October 2016. I got a 24' highly optioned Icon tag with 100% LED lighting. Instead of 4' fluorescent lights I optioned mine with a total of 4 double rows of 8 recessed LED lights plus the LED lights under the work bench. It's like day time in the trailer with no need to start the generator. My wife and I drove from Southern California to Nappanee to pick it up just so we could take the shop tour. Worth doing.

My previous trailer was a six digit $$$ 53' T&E 5th wheel. It's my opinion T&E builds the best trailer money can buy. I tried to order my new trailer from Todd and Earl at T&E but they don't build smaller trailers. After doing a lot of research I decided on Intech and I'm glad I did. My new Intech has perfect fit, finish, mitered corners, no sharp edges, doors are all perfectly square in the openings, billit components, everything is correctly centered, etc. I'm very picky and I can't find anything wrong with this trailer.

I am planning on picking it up at the factory as well. I have heard the same thing about the tour.

By the way, Eddie Krawiek who sold me on it.
Agreed, I have gone back to his post a couple of times from a few years back. I am extremely impressed with the engineering drawings and amount of detail. Makes me feel much better about the buying process. And then from there, you get the construction photos where you can follow along and make sure everything is built to suit.

I failed to mention... Mine has an electric jack. :)

The daily updated construction photos are great. I made a few changes in the nick of time just watching the progress. 7 months after I picked it up the photos are still accessible on their web site.

When you are in the Nappanee area take a drive around town. There are a bunch of travel trailer manufacturers, plus ATC is there. Several miles to the east is T&E. And while you drive around watch out for horses and buggies and don't forget to wave to the Amish people. Lotsa fun.

One thing I added that I don't see on your list is their combination 12V double USB charging port/power outlet, I had one added next to the 110V outlets on the trailer work bench. We've already used the USB ports to keep our phones charging while we're inside the trailer. It's mounted like the rest of the outlets in the trailer with a cover plate. I like it because the green indicator light above the double USB ports is a quick way to glance and see if the 12V power supply switch is on or not. Also, insulating it at this stage is cheap. I would do it.

OP....

Change the axles to 7,000 lb ones and change the tires to LT 235/85-16. You don't want ST tires.

It's going to be a nice trailer.

That was something I wanted to say also. The difference between a 20' enclosed 6000# trailer and a 28' enclosed 6000# trailer is the length. GVW is still 6000# for each and the longer trailer weighs more so you can carry less.

The GVW (axle weight) is total weight including the weight of the trailer that the axles can carry. Yes, some of the trailer weight is on the tongue but that should never be more than 10% of the trailer weight.

Of course, no dealer will outright tell you how much the trailer weighs unless you ask.

Another option, especially for those longer trailers is a third axle if you plan on carrying a lot of extra stuff.

Kinda late to the party. X2 on Brad from RPM, he gave me some sound advice on options for the 32' I picked up in September. Two suggestions FWIW; you have basically optioned the Icon package by ordering everything separately, suggest looking at that package which comes with extruded aluminum floor, rather than rubber coin floor. I also had my tongue jack moved closer to the trailer wall, giving me better access to truck tailgate.
I picked mine up at the factory and got the tour; would definitely do that again. No complaints, or regrets on mine!

#16 ·
Appreciate the input. I had it priced both for the Icon package as well as the non-Icon package. The flooring: I did not want the aluminum flooring for the simplicity of slipping. Any type of fluid that would get on the floor and it would be a skating rink.

I will take a closer look at the jack, but guessing I will run into an issue with having the generator compartment mounted on the tongue. Still will need to access the front of the box. I moved the generator to the tongue to avoid the noise and fumes inside the trailer. It also will give more space by not using the side generator compartment.

My 24' inTech icon is less than a month old. I too went through Brad @ RPM, mostly because he was local and inTech dealers are few and far between. Absolutely no complaints about mine, except it weighs a lot more than I thought it would being all aluminum... I had a Grand Cherokee Summit and couldn't imagine pulling it like the guy above ^^^^ In fact, I just sold the F150 for a 2017 F250 6.7L because when loaded down, the 4800 pound trailer, 3500 car and all the tools and shit in the cabinets was just a bit too much for the 1/2 ton truck.

Won't go into all the details as it simply isn't necessary but will share a few photos.

You are right about the JGC. Even though I used it to get the trailer home (empty weight of my trailer is 4,400 pounds and the JGC ecodiesel has a tow rating of 7,400 lbs) I won't be towing it with the Jeep when the trailer is loaded and I head for Mecum Monterey in August. The Jeep's wheelbase is short enough that it moves around quite a bit even with a load distribution hitch and sway control. I sold my 2015 Duramax when I thought I was done towing trailers for a while. Six months later I ordered the Intech. Selling the truck turned out to be a good move because the new engine in the 2017 Duramax has 910 ft lbs of torque, significantly more than my 2015 had.

One other suggestion for the OP. I had Intech prewire mine for solar because the systems are getting better and better as time goes on. The wiring for the solar controller is stubbed out next to the breaker panel inside the left side overhead cabinet. Solar wiring is also stubbed out on the roof. I keep the trailer indoors in my shop which has skylights so the battery will always be charged (once I decide on how few or how many panels I want on the roof).

Nice trailer.

Well, the trailer is officially ordered. I had made a few changes here and there. The two largest were than I switched from a 28' to a 26' and I also went with the iCon package. The main reason I jumped back up to the iCon package was the aluminum interior walls.

Ended up decided on a white exterior, silver interior, and medium charcoal cabinets and cove.

Aside from the iCon package, other upgrades I have ordered are the following:
- 33 feet – Downgrade to Black Coin Floor from Extruded Aluminum Floor, including ramps door
- 1 Each - Upgrade to Tongue Mounted Generator Box from Standard Generator Box. Downgrades front cabinet to straight base, deletes side generator door, includes ATP Tongue Cover, Tapered Layout, Vented Generator Compartment.
- 2 Each – Upgrade 500W Quartz recessed light to Whelen 900 series super LED, with dimmer switch.
- 1 Each – Upgrade to Recessed Stainless Steel Latches into Ramp door from Paddle Latches – Pair.
- 1 Each – Rear Caster Wheels – Pair
- 1 Each – In floor Tire Compartment, uses hidden hinges and gas shocks.
- 1 Each – Upgrade to 60” 405 Series double door
- 1 Each – Upgrade to full width ramp extension with 3” bumpers, 48” extension.
- 5 Each – 120V 15A Receptacles – GFI protected where required, 7 interior, 3 exterior.
- 1 each – Add 3-way light switches – Pair
- 4 Each – Add 12V 18” LED Interior Light, Maximum of (6) per switch. (2) rows of 4.
- 14 Each – Add Panelite LED Clearance Light – Each. 5 on top and 2 on bottom.
- 1 Each – Side mount LED Turn Signal/Clearance and Turn Combo – Pair.
- 4 Each – Add single drawer to Standard Base Cabinet Above Door. (1) Drawer for each lower cabinet.
- 40 Feet – Add Airline Track – Recessed. (2) 20’ sections.
- 1 Each – Upgrade to 48” Front ATP stoneguard
- 1 Each – Upgrade to Lowered Skirt with Reverse Beavertail Design – Tandem Axle
- 1 Each – Color Matched Rear Spoiler. New Style with (2) integrated LED Loading Lights
- 1 Each – Wiring for Loading Lights on rear spoiler to activate as reverse lights.
- 1 Each – In floor winch Box with pulley. Angled Mount
- 1 Each – Add winch Wire Prep
- 1 Each – TV Prep Package. Roof Mounted Antenna, Exterior coax cable inlet, 120V interior receptacle, wall backer for future installation, 12V antenna/switch controller.
- 1 Each – Add AM/FM/CD Bluetooth Stereo with (4) speakers

The following are the blueprints the trailer will be constructed off:

Can't wait for the construction photos as well as the facility tour when picking up the trailer. I am guessing we are looking around mid July for a completion date. I should know more on that as it is updated in the customer portal. Will try to keep some of the updates coming on this.

12 weeks is the best you can hope for.

Why go with 26 foot rather than 28 foot and why downgrade the flooring? You are buying an all aluminum trailer yet are having them install a plywood sub floor on which they will glue down rubber coin?

#27 ·
The lead time is out of my control. The nice part about it, I will at least be able to keep up with the progress of the trailer on the customer portal, as compared to almost every other company out there were you are left in the dark on the progress. I can't stand dealing with companies in the auto industry because almost every single one of them is horseshit at meeting deadlines. So being able to follow the progress online is great, as compared to having to constantly call or email and be lied to.

I went with the 26' for a couple of reasons:
1. Storage location.
2. A little less weight as compared to the 28'. Not much, but the same as a race car, every bit helps. See comment below.
3. I feel I will be able to get everything in as needed in the 26'. We will find out when I get it.

I did not want the aluminum floor. Yes, it looks nice. However, as soon as any fluid gets on it, whether it be water, or any fluid from a car, it will become slippery. Also, I understand it isn't much, but it will be one hell of a lot nice layer on something with a shade of padding (the black coin floor) as compared to the aluminum for tying down the car.

2014 InTech 26' trailer here. Once back to factory for separated upper horizontal panels on one side. Wanted to tow with my 2104 1500 Silverado with 5.3 engine. Mostly flat ground here in central Illinois. With the trailer weighing 3900#, my 3000# race car, a CRICKETT midget golf cart and a few tools, it is manageable for local tracks. Even though they are all aluminum, they have to be thicker wall tubing and braces to hold up, so they weight more than you would think. If I went to a 28' trailer I don't think the 1500 Silverado would be up to it, and I don't need a bigger truck or more expense for anything else.
Same situation I am in. I am planning to pull with a 2017 GMC 1500 with a 6.2. Yes, I have read the threads on here about pulling with a 1/2 ton versus the 3/4 ton. We will see how it goes.

Fallacy. Any type of floor can be slippery depending on what is on it. Oil or lube on a coin floor will be slippery. Any applied vinal flooring will eventually move, and sticky tires will pull it up as well. Or put diamond plate where the car sits so you can have those funny marks in your tires from sitting all week on it.
I skinned my plywood floor with 6 sheets of .062 plain sheet 10 years ago or more. No slips no falls, easy to clean up stuff with some lacquer thinner and a mop.

Just pulled my Intec from Florida to Darlington in the rain 95% of the way. No leaks, but I didn't get the drivers escape door, or the 60" curb doors for that reason. Also they began graining the panels where the mounting tape goes, for better adhesion. I'm 100% satisfied.
My delivery time "slipped" back also, but figured it would. The frustrating part is the time from order until production begins, but once they get started, it happens quick. Be patient, it'll be worth it.

Intech trailers have "big bones" >>> that is what makes them a little heavier than expected for an Al trailer.

If you don't want an aluminum floor or the rubber coin covering (sucks on the ramp in the sun / no one I know that has it does not have a problem with it buckling) here's what I did. Plywood floor / 1 gal 2k primer thinned down / 3 gallons of Kelley Coatings Convoy Epoxy. I bought it on-line for about $60 / gal. and picked it up in Louisville on the way to Napanee, IN >>> They will ship it tho. It is also a 2 part epoxy, rated for fork truck traffic. No chance the slicks will pick it up. Have 3 more gallons to re-coat just because.

Yep, I am digging up an old thread for information.

Is this the primer you used?

From the Convoy web site:
Alkyd-based polyurethane coatings | PU alkyd primers | SOLIDO COLOR P310 | Sikkens Wood Coatings (sikkens-wood-coatings.com)

With this floor paint?

Super Convoy is a moderately aggregated two component epoxy coating - Kelley Technical Coatings (convoynonslip.com)

How is it holding up and did you recoat it.

Thanks

Well, how about a 3 month update. The trailer FINALLY started production late last week.

Just got home from spectating Hot Rod Drag Week at Great Lakes Dragaway and also Chitown's King of the Streets. Couldn't believe how busy the track was for HRDW. Lots of spectators. KOTS was an absolute blast and tons of great racing. It took a shitload of time to get going (schedule said driver's meeting at 10 and racing at 11 but started closer to 2), but was great all day after things started rolling. Definitely an event to visit. Received the production in on the trailer while I was gone.

I should have plenty of photos over the next couple of weeks starting with these:
