How much faster will the C8 ZR1 be around Nurburgring than the Mustang GTD?

The new C8 ZR1 is going to be an amazing car! So too the Mustang GTD. Even though I bleed Ford blue, I know the Corvette is going to be the faster car, but by how much? A 200HP advantage for the Corvette and lighter weight... I'm curious what everyone thinks the gap will be.

Not even in the same league

$325,000 Mustang….hilarious
Whats the base MSRP of the ZR1? 1/3rd that??

Gonna be a hilarious outcome
Surprised Ford is allowing it

I don't give a shit who wins the pissing contest - I'm just jacked to see two of the Big 3 'Murica brands(GM, Ford, Tesla...) seriously competing with the best from europe, and producing these batshit crazy cars that we never even would've dreamed of them producing a decade ago. Gotta be a miserable fuck to hate on this stuff.

"...damn it guys, Ford is making crazy ass cool shit again..."

This ^ was a winner for Ford......and for this kinda $$$ was the better path IMHO

While the GTD sounds and revs cool......
Deep in the back of my mind it just does not compute. How do you take a $30,000 Mustang
available to any pimply faced high school kid or girl, and turn it into a $325,000 asking price??
(Do not FRET!!!! FORD has that answer!!!! :ROFLMAO:)

End of the day, Ford dicked up bad again, because the Ford GT was the car that they should be asking
that kinda money for, not a damn car that started out it's life as a Secretary marketed vehicle
End of the day.......it's still just a Mustang, and that price is ludicrous

This was a winner in my book, I don't know WTF they're thinking doing this with a Mustang

Obviously contending with track traffic for testing and tuning purposes only.
Not sure when they will have an exclusive track test

Ford beat the C7ZR1 with the GT500 on several different tracks.
Bullshit. List them.

The ZL1 has been beaten by the GT500 on multiple occasions.
We're talking about the Nurburgring. And as far as that is concerned, the ZL1 has run a faster time than any Ford, ever. A Camaro... faster than every Ford ever run there.

Aceshigh,

I get it... it's a Mustang. But it is not simply a Mustang, but a ground-up exercise in what the Mustang CAN BE.

I don't think Ford would build the GTD if they weren't serious and the asking price indicates they are very serious. Serious enough to actually compete with a ZR1? Given a 200HP deficit, I think it will be a lot closer than most people think. Only time will tell.

I'm excited to see the new ZR1 in some standing mile competitions. Nothing has seriously challenged the first generation Ford GT in a long time but that will certainly change within the next five years.

Listen to Episodes 252 and 253 of Dinner with racers and you'll understand the mad man behind the scenes more.

Then maybe the Level 25 DSR (D sports Racer) episodes.....and you can see what money laundering can buy you.

Not the Ring, but VIR lightening lap.

The reason I posted the VIR laps, is because the course is shorter and not as fast top speed wise as the Ring. It is a little more real world for production cars with little to no safety equipment such as a cage ect. It has been said that the reason the 2019 ZR1 never posted a complete lap at the Ring, was due to the capability of it being faster than the car realistically should be going. They knew it would go sub 7 minutes no problem, but decided against it for safety reasons.

While we are on the subject, I think it's kinda funny Multimatic or Shelby has to be involved to make these mustangs really fast, but the Corvette and others being mentioned are purely production cars from GM.
It's been that way from the early 60s! Lol

From what I understand the C7 Corvette isn't the best aerodynamically at high speed. I'm sure the C8 ZR1 will have fixed all those issues! I would be surprised if "too high of a top speed" was actually a problem for the C7 on the ring... never heard that about any other car... ever. Lol, I'm just a casual observer though.

There's a few spots on the ring where you'll be in a straight long enough to go 160mph+ and then enter a high speed turn with a bank. That quick change of direction and suspension compression/rebound can easily make you lose it.

Those few spots are make or break for a wicked lap time. The cars that have enough aero and suspension to hold it WOT will make others look like they're sitting still.

That's what makes the ring such a unique challenge. I've watched built Mini Coopers hang with cars that have double the power simply because of how fast they can enter and exit the big sweeps.
