I was thinking about cutting the plastic wheels and making rims out of them, then installing lawn mower tires with tubes if needed. I know you guys will have a better idea, so lets hear it.

I've seen some guys take the gears and whatnot out of them around here when they buy em not working from garage sales and coast them downhill or pull one of their drunk buddies along in one tied to a 4 wheeler....some funny shit, but never seen one with rubbers on it.

We do power wheels races at the local drag strip. Best we have seen is to take a bicycle tire and flatten it out and then cut it to length around the plastic tire. Then just rivet or screw the outer edge of the flattened bicycle tire to the plastic tire. Low weight and you get some rubber with tread on it.

my kid actually has a blast with the hard tires on a paved driveway. At 7 years old he knows how to steer out of a skid,do a doughnut,do a burnout and slide to a sideways stop.I had to wait till 16 and buy a winter rat and learn all that in the snow!If i can get it to go faster in reverse we'll work on the Jim Rockford turnaround next.

We've got a Ford Mustang and Jeep and been wanting to hop them up. Aside from traction what modifications have you done for speed, etc?

Be ready to drop some coin to get that Mustang to keep up with a kids Powerwheels.

Power Wheels batteries don't have much run time. Grandson was always running out of battery and having me get my lil old four wheeler to tow him back. Since it is a Gator with room in the bed I screwed down a marine style battery box, the big one. Rewired the machine cause I'd heard about a recall for melting wires, and put a group 31 stud post battery in. He don't run out of battery now. Battery weight in the rear sort of helped traction but still just spun tires everywhere and on any kind of hill. This battery has amps.

I used my sawsall and cut the tread off the old four wheeler tires that I never got around to throwing away. Used most of a box of screws and wrapped the tread around both rear tires. It don't spin, anywhere.

I've had to replace a motor, the brush melted off, gone. Fortunately someone had tossed another Power Wheels in the Dumpster so of course I stripped out the motors and gearboxes. A Guy has to have spare parts.

G'son has already outgrown the toy, it's been years already. Someone in the family with a little one is about to get lucky.
