2007 Lincoln MKX with 200k miles. Started to shudder recently when the converter locks up at lower rpm: 1000-1500. If I downshift and it runs up to 2k no slip/shudder. I did a fluid change and added some "no slip" friction modifier and it was gone for a few days but then came right back. Took it to a local shop and hooked up a Snap-on computer and took it for a drive. All sensors check out o.k.
Called a buddy who repairs trannys and he thinks it's the converter giving up. He's never worked on this type before but he said the newer car converters do a lot of work and for mine to have worked this well for over 200k is pretty good.
When I changed the fluid, I filtered it with a paint filter. No clutch material, no metal.
An internet search shows that these things have been giving very little trouble and there is not a lot of info. out there about them.
Any Ford tranny techs. or anyone who has any experience with 6F50 like to make a recommendation? This is the wife's and I don't want her to be stranded some day.
Thanks. PM me if you prefer.
Frank
