Converter too loose?

Current combo:
81 Malibu
383
PG 1.80
5.43 gear, 29.5x10.50 PBR
2-step @4400 rpm
Converter flashes to 6000 rpm off the transbrake
1.39 60'
Shift @7000 rpm, drops to 6600
Crosses line @7000 rpm, 103.5 mph, 6.55 et
Calculated 8% slip at finish line

I know my converter is a little loose. If I re-stall to tighten it up 400 rpm for a solid 800 drop, should I expect any reasonable gains and how much drop would I see on the finish line rpm if any?

Something is not right with your combination. First off with that size engine you should not have to leave at 4400. Secondly if you are shifting at 7000 and the rpm drop is only 400 then the converter is way off for your combo. The leave flash as the shift RPM should be almost the same. When I ran a glide in my car it would flash 6200 shift at 8000. Fall back to 6200. Trap rpm was 8600 in the 1/4

I would let that converter in the car and let it eat. The reason it's only falling to 6600 after the shift is those 5.43 gears.

I shift at 6900 with a glide and RPM falls to 6300. With 4:56 gears. If I put a tighter converter in my car it will slow up. With a glide its all about shift recovery. I have a converter that is 3-400 tighter for my combo and it will 60 the same and lose ET.

Thanks for the responses. I am going leave it in and "let it eat" as you said. I have been really pleased with how it is running after a cam change this past winter but was mainly wondering if there was any gains to be had if optimized further. I am making more power hence the lower rpm drop on the shift with the same converter, while picking up 3 tenths over last year (6.80s to 6.50s now).
