Let's share ideas on weight reduction.

My '67 is 2970 w/o driver.
Iron 5.3 LS
S485 turbo
Fender exhaust
Air to air intercooler
Ron Rhodes core support
15 gallon plastic fuel cell
Full size battery
No front inner fenders
Factory manual steering
Gutted Stock dash
Strange manual brakes and master
Turbo 400
10 point mild steel
2 Kirkey seats
Full steel tubs
Ladder bar; coilovers
Ford 9", nodular iron center
Glasstek bolt-on trunk lid and hood; cowl panel
Sanders 15x3.5; MT SR 26x15s
Sanders 15x12; MT ET Street R 325 50 15

2025 plans:
Swap in aluminum 5.3 (-105)
Add removable chute (+15?)
Cut heater wings out of firewall and sheetmetal them (-8?)
Swap to bias fronts (-30?)
=
2840
+ 210 for me
+15 helmet, gear
= 3067 raceweight

Would love to hear your ideas.

Pretty light. My car is 3180 but that's with a mid frame turbo, intercooler, SR front skinnies and MT 325 DRs. I'm ladder bar too. Is that with bias tires front and rear?

Guessing I need a better scale place...3420 with my 220# in it. WTF?
All steel except hood, all stock glass and trim
Weld ProStars, 10gal plastic cell, Stock interior (But just went Kirkey's in front, GW control arms, and coil-overs)

Maybe next time I'm out I'll hit the scale...need to find another place.

Yeah so you are 2890 car weight, that's great.

I'd like to get my car weight to 2800 from 2980, but when I do the math I think I can get to 2850:
  • Block swap to LC9, -105 lbs
  • Swap front SR skinnies to bias tires, not sure weight drop, -20 I'm thinking for both
  • SRC front steer rack and column swap, not sure weight drop, -30 I'm thinking
  • Cut out and box up the firewall heater wing areas, not sure weight drop, guessing very little, 5 lbs is my guess
  • I do not want to do pin-on trunk or hood for now, am running Glasstek fiberglass for both
I already have:
  • SRC control arms, AFCO front shocks
  • No front inner fenders
  • Bolt on fiberglass hood, cowl panel and trunk lid, Glasstek
  • 2 Kirkeys
  • 10 pt mild steel
  • Gutted dash
  • R Rhodes front core support
  • turbo fender exhaust
  • 15 plastic fuel cell, ladder bar, full tubs, Ford 9"
  • No headliner, partial carpeting

The 2 biggest weight savings in my car was the switch to lightweight brakes. That was 60 lbs. The lithium battery weighs 8 lbs so almost a 25 lb savings there. Fuel is 7 lbs a gallon so a smaller fuel cell will save some weight. I only keep 2 gallons in the cell for a run. Heads up run one gallon. Water is 8 lbs per gallon. My whole cooling system holds less that 2 1/2 gallons. Heads up run I dump a half gallon. my minimum weight is 3120. A big 3 core can hold double that amount of water. I run 6 qts of oil in my engine. Right now i have a 10 lb weight box in the trunk with no weight in it.
All 4 window's are still operable in my car too. I have no aftermarket body panels either. all original GM stuff

Yeah I have Strange brakes on all 4 corners, car originally had manual drums.

I could probably run less fuel, might be worth tracking how much I have in the cell. I can street drive my car so I run a full cooling system.

I'm still running all stock glass but I know a buddy made his rear windows fixed and made some sort of lightweight structure to hold them in place.

I think i'd be 3100 with me if I didn't have the turbo stuff.

I have the front bumper and brackets off too.
