okay, first rant on the bullet. so im having timing issues a while back, i couldnt get it to run under a indicated 65 degrees of timing! so in the rush to make pinks in indy i run my car over to the local "performance" shop. the guy said that my timing light must be junk because he timed it to 34 degrees no prallem. well, msd tech said something similar so i went with it. so on a quest to get a timing light i bought a flameing river and thought i was good but it indicated the same as my first light? so i get a third from a friend and IT reads the same as my two. well iv noticed it turned over a lil rough but my timing is locked out so mabe its cool. so i bump the boost yesterday and checked the timing for good measure and its still reading the 65 degrees. so out of a hunch i loosen the dizzy and back er off to my indicated 34 degrees and it runs like a champ. im thinkin that mabe the "performance" shop found somethin stupid simple and wanted to charge me for the time to set timing and didnt touch the timing. my timing lights have been right all along if this is the case.
now further upsetting is that i ran pinks at 65 degrees of timing and still went 10.6X at 4 pounds of boost. i think the only thing that saved me was runnin E85. wonder how much time i lost by having the timing off the chart? sorry for the lenght but anybody at home would look at me like I have a dick growin outta my forehead as I try to explain all of this.

before i took it to the shop it would pop and carry on through the exhaust. after the shop, i checked it again and it was running what seemed to be good, without the poppong but still indicating 65, so im thinking mabe their correct(with the light being junk theroy) and left it alone. it didnt seem right to me that it wasnt rattling like crazy so it was further why i was thinking he was correct. but i assure you, that it does indeed run without rattling with the timing up there. now im curious as to how much better it will run now.

its a 427 sbc, i was using the drivers front. im reading 34 degrees now that i backed it off. before i was under the thought of my light being junk so i didnt wanna mess with the setting it was at. now im thinkin he didnt touch the timing since it seems to run better after i backed it down off of the 65 degrees that it was showing on my light. he has one of those $300 cornwell lights and was tellin me my light must be off.

if it was poping out the exh side. the timing would be atdc. aka very late. if it were btdc it would pop out the intake.

I use a cheap ass sears timing light without the advance dial. I tried the fancy ones and the msd drove them krazy. Could be the problem.

...i have had cheap guns and $400.00 guns to test ..big shot NOS hits with MSD retard boxes on them (less the dope and fuel)... to make sure the system is working right!!!... AKA holding the motor above 3000 RPM and making sure it retards the hit on the crank marks! then you know you wire the system correctly. And never had an issue with any gun and a MSD! by the way its a lot easy a with a dial gun!!!;)
