I've had no back seat in my 67 Beaumont for the last 14 years...
I couple years ago I added a single racing bucket and a lap belt in the middle.
That was fine when he was in a full kid seat but now he's moving to a booster seat... I don't want him in just a lap belt.

Any recomendations for a restraint system for a small child?

Only problem i see with this, is 4/5pt harness are usually not DOT approved. Get pulled over, you might catch hell.

I don't think a 5 point harness is safe (I.M.O) in a street car for a 5 year old.
Yes its safer then a lap belt but I would have concerns of the child getting stuck
if a bad situation were to ever happen. If you are going that route I would consider
a cam lock setup over the latch style and make sure he knows how to release it.

I use cam lock Jr Dragster belts in the back for my kids. Much safer than any lap belt. I don't know how I would ever catch hell from the fuzz as the car never came with a thing from the factory in the back seat.
