Looks like a common water snake.
Too dark skinned to be a milksnake.
Head not shaped like a poisonous snake.
Large adult watersnakes are some very ornery sumbitches. Good on you for releasing it.
By the pics it looks like it might be down in a empty / dry sump basin ?

No, that was the bucket i put it in to relocate it.... LOL
I killed the others i have found before, but like i said ive only ever seen about 5 in 16 years of living here, I won't kill anymore, i just relocate it, unless it's a copperhead or poisonous one, then it's a dead one....
