Guys,
Need help with what kind of snake this is,
It's young, found in my basement, scared the shit out of my wife.
Picture is zoomed in, it was small, maybe 8-10" stretched out straight...
Looks from my searches to maybe be a northern water snake?
Thanks.
P.S. I hate snakes too but i didn't kill it, i took it about a mile away and let it go.
I'm in south eastern PA.

Banded northern water snake, non venomous and completely harmless.
It looks like the pictures i found of northern water snakes.
Aren't they usually near water though?
I don't have any streams or water close by my house.

Rattle headed copper moccasin. Very deadly!
FACT!!! Keep your hands away from the tail...they snap it and spray poison everywhere.

They aren't native around South Eastern PA are they?
There was no mention of that snake on PA list of snakes.
I didn't touch it, but it wasn't aggressive and when I'd get near it it just curled up in a ball as if to hide.

I'd really like reassurance what it was for my wifes sake... She's scared shitless of snakes, and it was in the basement....
She said we're moving... LOL
I've seen snakes around before, in the 16 years we've lived here ive seen maybe 5, they were Gardner or black snakes, never one like this.
