They go by the axles for the weight rating. Went with 6000# on mine and the weight tag says 18000# hope this helps.

Total weight for truck and trailer is 24,540 with a 2800lb car........
I have a 1996 Pace 48 foot and I built out my own living qtrs. I rolled it thru a scale when it was loaded. It was about 12K. I still have to install the plumbing and I think it will run about 13K when all said and done. I plan only to carry about 30 gallons water when in transit but will have a total of about 120 gallons on board at the track. I'll fill it at the track and dump all fluids close to the track. The 30 gallons will be for on the road use for the wife and I using the potty. We will carry bottled drinking water for coffee and thirst. My worry is that right now my 99 dually GCVW will be over. Max should be 12,500. The axle weights on the truck so far was not exceeding its rating but its dam close.

Shelby if you have questions I have a lot of photo's of my build out and can offer help to your build out.

I have a 50' w/LQ and Slide weighed in at 14,000 triple #7000 axels. 1ft extra height in cargo and 2ft extra height over sleeping area. I pull with 05 dodge dually. Pulls fine. Trailer is for sale.
I have a 52' Ameralite with a Forrest River conversion. It is a full aluminum frame, 3-7000# axles, 7500w generator. It weighs 12,370# empty, loaded I think I'm around 16,500 to 17,000.
Hope this helps.

In Texas, it used to be governed by the GVWR not the actual weight. It may have changed I don't know. Been a few years since I have had anything to do with having a CDL.
