I run a B&M Holeshot 3000, 4.10 gears, 28" tire. Vehicle weight 3500 lbs.

The cam thats in there right now is 525 / 516 lift

I think both cams are too big for the compression and converter you have. With only 10 to 1 compression and 3000 stall with that heavy of a vehicle you should stay under 250 @ .050 duration.
Just my opinion.

If your going to run that tight convertor id go with the smaller Comp grind.
Either cam aint going to see over 7000rpm...

My average ET is 11.70 @ 114, with a best of 11.63 @ 115. I am looking for 2 tenths.

Just want to upgrade my hydraulic flat tappet. Hydraulic rollers don't RPM, so I thought a solid roller would make a bit more horsepower.

I have the Comp Cams XR286R solid roller in my street car with 356" Windsor. Real nice crispy idle and fast throttle response.

10.62:1 compression, Canfield heads and Super Victor intake by Rodger Heldgeson, TREMEC, and 4.30's., full exhaust, 10.60's @ 127 (no power adder), drive anywhere anytime.

That would normally be true. I assume you are talking about a complete cam and kit including springs and retainers.
The big advantage with a roller cam is valve opening and closing rates. Even a cam with the same listed duration @ .050 might show an improvement in Hp as it give the motor more time to breath. You don't have a ton of compression and you have a heavy car so don't go over board.

Hydrualics can RPM just fine if you know how to pick the lobes and springs and keep the valvetrain light and stiff. No trick parts needed.

I think your second cam would work pretty decent but like was posted before I don't think you'll ever get any good power @ 7000 with it .I ran for years with a low compresion 406 sbc and I ran a bigger cam than this one you've picked out . Jus run this one if you have it .

I agree it won't make power to 7000. When most cam company's rate their cams from lets say 3000-7000, thats rated in a 355. That same cam in my 427 might make power from 2500-6500. I am just saying if i am going to upgrade the cam , I should go solid roller for more power.

There's no such thing as a street solid roller, no matter what the ads say. Solid rollers are for racing. If you do any amount of extended street driving, especially at lower engine speeds, you'll beat the pins right out of the rollers.

If you're stuck on solid roller, I wouldn't blame you as they make great power and are very consistant, buy very good lifters. I've heard the Crowers last a long time. I'm sure others will chime in on what lifters live. The regular Comp ones don't like street use.

If you are under 6500 RPM, consider a hyd roller more seriously, they make great power and can live forever.

FWIW, I ran a Comp 252/256, .420 lobe solid roller in a 10.5:1 421 sbc with -10 heads. 2700 stall, 3.73, 28" Hoosiers, 3400# 77 Nova. Ran consistent 10.6's all day shifting at 5900 RPM. 9.8's on a 0.052" N2O jet.

I agree solid rollers are tough on components when driven on the street. The valve spring pressures are alot heavier and its got to be harder on valve guides and roller rockers.

I run that smaller cam (XR292R) in a 396SBC @ 11.5:1 compression. It's seen more than a few thousand miles and holds it's tight lash(.016/.018) very well with Comp ProMag rockers and poly locks. I do run an oil restrictor. Comp Tie Bar lifters, trend PR. I think you'll find more than .2 ET reduction. It will appreciate a higher stall. I think those cubes and that top end will be quite a bit better with .600" lift vs. .525". Pump gas, FR5 NGK plug..It should drive like a champ for ya. You will want a bronze gear for your distributor. Goodluck!
