Hi, going to do an aftermarket axle and c clip eliminator set up for a gm 8.5 rear. I am going to keep the factory 28 spline posi unit. Considering this whats a good axle package for that spline ? Do I need to use moser or strange since the 28 spline center will be the weak link? What other options are out there? Thanks!!

why would you spend that much money and not go to 30spline? I would strongly encourage you to look at doing 30 spline so you only buy this stuff once! heck if you dont have alot of cash pull a 30spline unit out of something in the wrecking yard!:-KFC

'89+ S10 trucks too, and any of the "special service package" Caprices like the Taxi and Fire Dept. models. Saw one in one of our local junkyards a couple years ago and forgot to snag that and the oil coolers.

No the S10 is a 7.5 and 7.625. I have the 8.5 with 28 spline moser , c clip eliminator , welded axle tubes , 1350 yoke , detroit locker and richmond 3.90.

We're running 28 spline Yukon axles with screw in wheel studs, open diff with mini spool, in a heavy beast. Probably around 5000# +, 1.60 60' times.

What I know now about the GM 8.2/8.5, I would have done it differently lol. Full spool, 9" housing ends instead of what we got.

How much power are we talking and how fast do you plan to go? Foot brake or trans brake? Before you spend more money than needed ask yourself those questions. I know guys that have gone 9's on 8.2" rears let alone 8.5" the 28 spline tuff is not that weak it just depends on how hard you're going to hit it. I wouldn't be afraid of 28 spline stuff in anything 10.50 or slower, good aftermarket axles, weld the tubes, and put Ford ends on it.

Moser, Strange, Dutchman, all make good axles.

If you decide to use Moser, we always offer free shipping on Moser Axles or Axle/Spool packages.
Not a big savings, but every bit helps. Good luck...............Toni
