Considering the shows cult following (myself included) and having lived in Albuquerque almost 10 years I can see the city milking this for all it's worth.

They raised $11,000 the day before the funeral so that's good, but the 5 mile long funeral procession with full police escort and the headstone seem a bit ridiculous.

The sad thing is, some people probably think it was real, others probably think it was a reality show. And with a police escort, it's telling everyone that meth is cool and supported by the cops. We're all just sinking lower and lower on the intelligence scale.

Albuquerque has a sense of humor. Our minor league baseball team is named after the team on the Simpsons. Also, Breaking Bad was widely considered to be one of the best, if not THE best drama ever made for TV, and it was based, filmed, and to some extent produced in Albuquerque. Not hollywood, not LA, here. There's a cult following for this show nationwide, so you can imagine the following it has here. Not to mention it contributed almost $100 million to our economy.

Most of these fake things like the funeral, the obituary that ran, etc... were all put on by fan groups located here, and as it was said earlier, all donations etc... went to charity. Albuquerque has 20 new films / TV shows that are either filming currently, or are starting shortly. We wouldn't gain any movie or TV production business if we didn't embrace it fully.
