Nice simple explanation here about what is really going on when a turbo seal leaks.

The larger tube type drain makes sense. I'm guessing something like that would have to be fabbed? I have only seen the AN style drain stuff.

-12AN drain is pretty large...externally. But may still not be much over 1/2" or at best 9/16" internally.

Whereas a simple flange and 5/8" OD pipe welded to it....is already bigger, and more compact.

Very easy to make, ideal for routing past hot manifolds etc, and pretty much every OEM turbo oil drain is a simple steel tube.

There are a lot of cases where AN fittings, are definitely not the best solution.
