Anyone have experience with the finish on these ring and pinion sets?
Looking at a 01-888411isf which is a 4 series 4:11 gear 37-9 tooth set for 12 bolt

Been running the US Gear ISF now since a week after I posted this thread. No break in and no noise to this current date. Car has 60'd as well as 1.301 with a PBR @3800lbs.
I'd buy them again.

I posted asking about their "Lightning" ISF finishes back in 2018. Here's the thread.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I bought a set of 9310 ISF large pinion 4.57's, a ball bearing support, 40 spline gun drilled and flange lightened axles, and a light weight spool.
Switching from standard 9310 4.30 lg pinion, tapered bearing support, solid 35 spline axles.

We'll see what it's worth.

Re: US Gear ISF Finish Set Up Pattern Opinions

Guess I posted this in the wrong thread earlier.

I finally got around to setting up this gear set.

Strange looking pattern on the coast. What do you guys think?

4.57, 9.5", large pinion polished pro gear lightning series, .0065"-.007" B/L, .039" of shim.

Did you put as much resistance/drag as you can on the pinion to spread the pattern out ?
Here it is with a bit more resistance. I can see where it is trying to widen out and look a bit more normal. Still has a "Z" shape look to it but it is developing more in the area it should it looks like. I think if I could stress it a little more it would make more of a patch.
If I could find my friggen inch lb torque wrench I just bought I could check the final rolling resistance and stab it.

Thoughts?

I have used a bath towel and wrapped it around the pinion yoke in front of the seal. Twisted it with a big screwdriver like a turnicate to add pressure. Pattern should climb and spread with more resistance

Pattern does not look normal to me either. Have you tried .020" shim and compared pattern?

Any preload on the spool bearings? Try a little more on the drivers side.

I can't see very well but it looks like you need to keep adjusting.

So I took out .006" of pinion shim and the pattern looks great.

Problem is now, I can hear every tooth making contact (no whoosh sound) and my B/L went from .0005"(1/2 thou) variance to almost .003" variance.

Going to add .003" of shim back in and see what I get.

I just went with this but on a Dana 60 which is a lot more difficult the a 9". So I feel your pain, I also have a Tru trac for differential to make the matters worst of removing it multiple times to get the right pattern.
