And you are wrong again. The was dealing with two Admirals, as is noted in the article that neither of you bothered to read. Both disagreed with his desire to quarantine the crew.
He did not have two Admirals on that ship, as you stated, he has one. The other, is in Yokosuka Japan. And yes he deals with both of them, and both out rank him.

One on the ship and one shoreside ... it’s still two Admirals.

He pulled an “End around”

I don't have a problem with him either, but he sure has some thin-skin for as much as he BARKS at others.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, and I'm not going to read through 18 pages to find it, but has anybody thought that maybe the Captain wanted to get the hell off the ship because he was afraid of getting the virus and didn't give a shit about the consequences to his career?

A career choice to serve in the armed forces, yet afraid of a virus? Are you kidding?

Could be, but I'll go with Protecting his crew.

Speaking of being on a ship and "afraid"

I have a friend who was a JO flying off the Ranger in Gulf War 1. VF2 ( F-14 squadron)
As a JO he ended up with the most flight hours of any F-14 pilot that year, because there were pilots who told the Capt of the "boat" they didn't want to fly because " I might get shot down". My friend flew double-triple missions.

As for those pilots, He thought they should have been marched to the fantail, and a MP put a .45 thru their heads.

Current count ... 416 sailors from the ship have tested positive.

They are expecting another 1,000 to test positive.

It's a 7-21 day incubation period.

The guy was Captain of one of the primary ships in the world's premier naval force.
You do not get to that position by being naive, or stupid, or scared.
You get to that position by being damned good at what you do.
Lesser men with lesser skills are running lesser vessels - or are further down in the ranks.
He knew exactly what he was doing, exactly what the consequences were, and he acted with full knowledge and responsibility, in his best judgement.
I would wager that every man on that ship would walk through fire at his request, and would not piss on those Admirals to put them out if burning.

I am older now - no need to be popular anymore - that's for kids.
And it does not mean that the guy (or the admirals) are "right" - - or "wrong".
But as I said - it does mean that he was entirely capable, completely cognizant of the situation, and in control of the choice he made.
