still trying to get this timing right, today we warmed up motor, unhooked and plugged vacuum advance, then i had my dad rev to 3000 rpm, timing was 42, so i turned distributor until we had 36 at 3000, then checked initial timing, it was around 16 or so, with vacuum advance hooked back to manifold vacuum, i only had 22 at idle, so i turned allen screw in vacuum can until i had about 28-30 at idle, did i set this the right way or am i way off?

Nope at cruise at 3000 your going to have vac plus centrifical plus base, if it was me and I just had to have vac I would run ported vac and cent rev it up and set total at 40 to start with the cent in as quick as I could, I am if its built much, just not a fan of vac advance. I prefer to set total 40 with mech and then back to base running a higher base timing.
