Any idea why my converter would flash correctly but is just lazy doing it out the hole and MPH is down about 4 as well. Engine was refreshened and made pretty much same HP and torque so I don’t think that’s the problem. Last year same weather with a 4.30 gear car ran 4.94 @ 144 with a 1.14 60’ and now it’s runs 4.99-5.00 @140 with a 4.56 gear with a 1.14-1.15 60’. It’s been gradually getting slower and i know this may be a vague post but ask any question that may be related to why it would do this. Transmission has been through and refreshened with new servo and valve body that makes only 210 psi at finish line which it used of make 280 last year with old valve body
598 BBC
1227 HP @ 7600
928 ft lb torque @ 6000
9” spragless converter stalls @ 6700
1.80 straight cut glide
4.56 rear gear
33.0/16.5-15 tire
2550 lb door car

When was the last time the convertor was opened? And the lower trans PSI supposedly should have helped a little bit. It sounds like the fins are starting to bend over to me. Do you have a spare convertor you can plug in and try?

When the fins lay over, does the stall increase or decrease? Converter seems to be stalling ok, it’s just real lazy doing so

I had a 9" one that started bending fins and the car just kept slowing down. Initially I thought I had a trans problem so tore that apart but we couldn't find anything wrong. Then I sent the convertor in to be checked and they called back telling me I was better off getting a new one.

I have a 8” aluminum Neal chance converter I want to try by I’m afraid 8” won’t work with a 598 CI. Anybody think I should try it?

Whats the point in having it if you're never going to try it?

Your alum conv was behind a 565 that made the same power as your 598 and the only thing that might throw it off the wall is the extra .25” Of stroke. It might surpirse you though, our chance conv was .07 quicker to the eighth than the steel(diff manuf) conv we replaced.

I need to do something. A 1.16 60’ is telling me something Is not right but the mph is 140 at the end which is still 4 mph down from what it should but still Making decent power. I’m sure it will pick up a little just by the less crank weight.
