i've been running my 385 with the same combo for a while now and want more.. after a rebuild, i went back to low 12's for some reason.. this is what i was thinking for a new combo:

385(same shortblock)
10.8:1
AFR 210 eliminators
Doug herbert solid roller (.585/.600, 244/252 @ .050, 106 LSA) or (.598/.625, 251/261 @ .050, 106 LSA)
Ported Vic Jr.
mighty demon 750 or prosystems 950HP
1-3/4" long tubes
3" true duals
3100lbs
t-5
4.56 spooled 9"
28.5" QTP

looking for 10's.. :supz:

any thoughts or suggestions?? i wont be racing for a couple years so i have a long time to think and plan..

It is a great thing to plan and check to see whats out there. Thing is, technology is changing every day so what is today hot ticket is tomorrows old school ideas... Who knows by then we might all be driving a car that has exhaust like a Jetson mobile!

i see where you're comin from.. but those heads are the newest on the market and a solid roller is where everyone is turning to since oil quality has gone down.. and from what i read on this board, prosystems is gold..

any ideas how fast i could run with this combo?? a consistent 10.90 is my goal but i'm open to going faster..

You should be listing what you have now and what your changing too, if you are just talking heads and camshaft .08 is asking a lot

at 3100lbs it shouldnt be too hard to run 10.9s on pump gas if the car works well, around 500hp. I'd look at a pro to do a set of heads for your combo, not some cnc'd cookie cutter stuff which has turbulance/airspeed issues and a small pushrod pinch choke point of around sq. 2" , also Comp (and others) would have better lobe design to get you there.

old combo

385
about 11:1
comp 306S (1.6/1.5 rockers)
brodix race rite 200
mighty demon 750
ported vic jr.
1-3/4 long tubes
2.5" exhaust with horrible bends (under 2" at some places)
3100lbs
t-5
4.30 gear (shifting 6600 trapping 5900)
28.5" tire

changing cam, heads, gear, exhaust and possibly carb.. as for the heads, i live in hawaii and no one here does port work.. i dont even think anyone has a flowbench.. i would have to ship it out.. you know any good places to send a set of brodix race rites?? and about how much would it cost to get it worked over??

Man your in a tough spot, I think your giving up a lot staying with the small cubes, in pump gas cubes rule, the heads are small to wind it up, but if you invest in good heads, your leaving a lot on the table with the small cubes still.

I would just spray it 100-150 shot and your there with what you have

Making 1.3 HP per Cube is hard enough on pump gas, and you will need more than that I think to go 10.90s, with many comprimises

i would swap exh out for sure and go with 3" the race rite is a decent head..there was just a 355 in hot rod that was pump gas and made 540hp at like 6800 rpms..cam was a mid 600 lift with a 276/284 i think with a 112 lobe..

i got the exact details to it..just got to dig out the mag..i will post them up when i find them.

i think you might need alittle more gear if your only goin threw the traps at 5900..
