This is sort of a spin-off thread from the K car thread.

Yeah performance was pretty much non-existent in the early 80's but there were some Timex watches built. Some of those cars simply wouldn't die!

Who didn't own or know someone that owned cars like......

Omni
Horizon
Reliant
Aries
Spirit
Acclaim
LeBaron
Celebrity
6000
Ciera
Escort
Fairmont
LTD
LTD II
AMC Spirit
AMC Hornet

What else have I missed?

Wasn't there a version of an Escort that was like a sports car?
Yes, the EXP.

It was a 2 seater. Back in the 80's a local guy built one with the Ford Hemi in it. God damn nice car, I wish I knew where it went.

I had a 1984 Mercury Lynx. (same as Escort) 2 bbl 5 speed.
That little car consistently got 35 mpg with the a/c on ( nice cold air)

Damn good car to have when you make minimum wage.

I was one hour late for work once because the starter solenoid went bad.
other than that, it was a good one.

Buicks 3.8 motor saved GM back then. Reliable with good mileage and power.

had one of the even fire 3.8 Buicks in my '78 Monza Wagon.
Loved that car.
Should have never sold it.

You could extend that to any car that had that damn 3.8 liter v6 from gm. dear god, you could just about put them in a demo derby stock and win.
My olds 88 we decided we needed to go duke of hazzard style over a set of railroad tracks and all that broke was the oil filter which was ripped in half.

I don't remember. All I can remember was that the car was black, appeared stock with the hood closed (except for the fat tires in the back) and had that Hemi Ford. You can't forget a car that has one of those engines. Perhaps the car got sold to a guy in IN.

Picked up a 86 pontiac 6000 in like 1992 for 400 bucks, fixed the damaged door and sold to sister in law, they drove it for 6 yrs then I got it back, drove it for a few then gave it to my sister and she drove it for a few more, had like 300,000 miles and was reliable as hell.

I had the misfortune of owning an '84 Renault Alliance with the sport tuned 3 speed auto. It was so underpowered that if you leaned forward and slammed back in the seat, the car would noticeably slow down. I couldn't kill it though despite my best efforts.
