Wondering at what level on a drag race build anyone is changing the stator tube in a th400 to something heavier duty (material not size). I usually in the past have recommended this upgrade around 1000-1100 horse just to be cautious. I see many companies don't do it on their builds so I wanted to hear it from guys that build quality products. I ask because I'm doing a build for a guy on a turbo LS in a heavy car (1200-1300 horse) and he is trying to cut a few areas to upgrade a few others, thanks in advance.

I have only ever seen 1 stock tube failure in 37 years. I don't consider replacement an upgrade if you start with a factory induction hardened tube.

That is very interesting to hear, I have gotten pumps a few times from ATI that have a heat treated stator tube in them because it was a recommendation of theirs at some point. Good to hear that the stock ones hold up just fine. I know its a necessity in a good glide, wasn't sure about a 400. Thanks again
