How much power will a TH400 hold before you need to start going with better hard parts like shafts, drums etc. I was also told that the internals on the '72 and down models had better quality pieces. Any truth to this?

1964-1969 were the best for internal parts. It all depends on weight and torque. I have had some guys really fly with a basic trans (against my best wishes) but they did it and it lasted quite well.
Every monday I was waiting for a call that it broke. :smt017

Hutch, I've heard that some of the 4L80 components are stronger and are direct replacements in the 400 (the center support for instance). What's your experience/opinion with this?

I have one with a "67" stamped on the lower portion of the tag. Is this a good indication that it is a 1967 trans? Is there a better way to tell what year it is?
