Team Titan Joins M/T 3-Second Club

ORLANDO, FL (Apr. 30, 2010)—In drag racing, the primary focus is crossing the finish line before your competitor; however the clock at the end also presents additional goals as you hope to break personal bests and national records for elapsed time (ET) and speed.
For months Titan Motorsports tested, changed combinations, and tested again in a quest to join the exclusive Mickey Thompson Three-Second Club. The requirements of this bounty are simple, be one of first five Extreme 10.5 cars to run 3.999 or quicker over the eighth mile in official American Drag Racing League (ADRL) competition.
For achieving this mammoth task Mickey Thompson awards a custom ring, a custom leather jacket, a $3,000 bounty and inclusion in a special section of the official ADRL Web site at www.ADRL.us.

With a single-turbocharged Toyota 2JZ six-cylinder engine and only 186 cubic inches, many doubted Team Titan could be competitive against 800-plus-cubic-inch turbocharged, supercharged and nitrous-injected motor combinations.
So, the Orlando based team with driver Gary White out of New Market, Alabama, set out to prove the doubters wrong, and continued its quest to join the M/T Three-Second Club.
After posting solid test numbers at Alabama International Dragway, White and Team Titan were excited to arrive at South Georgia Motorsports Park (SGMP) last weekend for the ADRL Hardee’s Georgia Drags VI, with every intent of joining the club.
The weekend initially proved to be challenging, as the SGMP track surface was prepped better than anticipated and presented new challenges. Also, a mechanical issue appeared in the first qualifying session which caused White to abort the run shortly past the starting line.
Crew chiefs Brett White and Eric Luzinski reviewed the data from the run and quickly diagnosed and corrected the gremlin, but the second qualifying pass ended much like the first with the car leaving with limited power. Brett again reviewed the engine data and made drastic changes to the tune-up for the third and final qualifyingsession on Friday night.
After testing the new tune-up on the air jacks in the pit, both crew chiefs were confident they had resolved the starting-line issues that plagued their first two qualifying attempts. So the Titan team gathered its gear and brought the car to the starting line for the final pass of the evening knowing they had made the necessary changes to get the car to go A to B and make the field.
White, being the seasoned professional he is, trusted his crew had resolved the previous rounds issues and staged the car with something to prove. As the car launched past the starting line it was apparent the car was on rails and ready to make a solid run. As the scoreboard lit up with 3.996 at 182.45 mph, Team Titan realized exactly how solid the pass was and erupted in cheers!

After many long months of trying, Titan Motorsports made its way into Mickey Thompson Three-Second Club, with White joining fellow XTF drivers Chuck Ulsch, Spiro Pappas and Todd Moyer, leaving just one spot remaining before the club is full.
It means adding another line to the history books for Team Titan and solidified its position as the fastest import team in the world, and the first ever to make a three-second pass on 10.5W tires.
