Putting together a budget street SBC with a set of Vortec heads. Heads have 1.6 self aligning rockers on them. motor is a flat top piston simple motor for a street car. Looking at a budget hydraulic flat tappet cam. Any suggestions?

I can't comment on the "budget" part, but I know Cam King on here has a lottttttt of experience with forced air induction cams. Call him up or several others on here.

I've had luck with the elgin. 480 .480 cam that pretty much taps out a vortec head without putting in threaded rocker arm studs.. anything more than that you run into coil bind also the heads stop flowing at. 500 lift anyways.

Make sure you've got the late 90's heads and not the junk tbi heads.
That cam with 4.11's, air gap, and a 150 shot had those cobra mustang guys wondering wtf was up..

X2 camking, If on a tite buget the elgin or howards cams both have kits cam an lifters for under $150.00, in 480 lift deal, depending on the rest of your combo, gears, exh, trans ect, I think the howard cam is on a 108 lobe, an the elgin on a 112 lobe sep.

This is an EXCELLENT street/strip cam with descent gearing and stall converter. It will have a "Choppy" idle, rev up fast and provide a lot of torque for a street car. Will pull hard to 6000rpm, use an RPM Air Gap

Camshaft part #110591
Grind # H-228/3200-2S-6
284/290 @.020" tappet lift
228/234 @.050" tappet lift
139/144 @.200" tappet lift
.480"/.494" lift with 1.5's
.512"/.527" lift with 1.6's
106° lobe center

PM for pricing if interested,,,

I used the XE 268 from Comp Cams. I did have screw in studs put in though. Ran great for what it was. I think around 400 hp at the time.
