Milled 289 heads, just until clean up Chambers came out 56CC, puts my compression at 10.07:1, was going to do a small dish in the piston if needed but I'm just going to run it like that.
Ran 289 heads in a similar setup back in the 90's on pump 93. Sometimes it would run on a tad after turning it off, but no audible detonation. A buddy with the same heads on a 306 had to use octane booster and 93 with flat tops. I believe his cam was only 224/236... but a little more compression with the 3" stroke, compared to your 2-7/8".

After looking at the advertised duration, I may end up putting a dish in. The last 289 I did used the 282S cam, older style longer seat timing. The nostalgia plus cam is 262/269 and 112LSA, I wish I could find a 282S.
Especially being someone else's engine and using the smaller cam... probably a wise decision. 282S is a great cam for a 6500 rpm 289! Surprised it's unavailable.

Working on the 427 block and crank for the tunnel port heads.

Fixed a leak on the 427 TP block by the water drain, silicone bronze with the tig.
427 crank, had a few water spot but I think it will run ok, and it looks a lot better than when it showed up.
