I picked up this 2001 Mustang GT last year to build. It was pretty much bone stock and rust free from Arizona. This is my first time messing with a domestic car (I come from an import background).

The plan is to go 4s-7s in the 1/8-1/4 on a 28" radial and compete in the Drag and Race week 8.50 class events.

Day I picked her up:

Stock engine out.

Pulling the rear end. This will be sent off to Tin Soldier Race Cars for their Battle Ready 8.8 kit with 35 spline axles.

Fresh slate

Ordered the wheels first so I can give TSR the rear axle width measurement I want.

15x12 4" BS Billet Specialties Comp 5 with MT ET PRO radials 275/60/15.

Stock width in no bueno (obviously).... 馃槀

Time to cut the factory tubs out.

Finding where I want the wheels. That'll do.

I went with the Wild Rides mini tubs (pre-fabbed). The template made it easy to know where to cut.

First fit, not bad...

Stitched in

Seam sealed and finished.

Coated the wheels wells with a rubberized undercoating and cut the trunk floor out.

Next up is to reinforce the factory torque boxes. I went with the Wild Rides battle boxes.

I chose to bolt them in AND weld them. I also welded some thick washers on the control arm bolt holes so they can't round out and welded some of the factory box seams.

This will be carpeted and painted for a nice feel after cage work is done.

Time to get the rear end in. This is a battle ready 8.8 from Tin Soldier Race cars with 35 spline strange axles, ford 9" ends, 5/8 studs etc...

Powdercoated

First course of action is to install the TRZ anti roll bar and control arms.

Welded in and control arms installed.

Shock mount next to find tab placement.

Burned in and hung

Strange brakes

I have a scottrodfab trunk floor on the way.

Next up is the front end with Team Z parts (they're local to me). Stay tuned.
