Spiro Pappas and company came to Joliet to test their brand new engine for the GXP. Slightly before the eighth mile there was a pop that was shortly followed by fire. If I had to guess, the engine let go and sprayed oil on the hot turbo parts, but that is unconfirmed. Spiro coasted the car to the top end and got out safely. The car did go up in flames briefly but it was put out pretty quick. The front clip of the car is trashed and the engine was blackened. Shame for the Pappas crew and their new engine.

Fire systems rarely put the fire out.They just knock it down for a bit so you have a chance to get out.

Pappas has had a tough year,especially on his wallet.I think it's ironic the old single car is the only one running out of his fleet.
