hey guys,

this one mostly applies to the canadian guys since i am in Ontario, Canada...im going to buy my wheels some time this week, but im not sure what size to order my fronts in...i am getting the street lites and they come in 4 and 6 inch widths, but im not sure what the smallest legal width is on the street (this is a street car) and i want to go with the smallest legal size i can..for some reason im thinking it is 4.5, but some have told me 3.5 and some have told me 6...id like to know if anyone here knows..like i said ive looked and cannot find any info on it:confused:

Not sure about Canada (or the US for that matter) but I ran with 3.5s on the front for years, was stopped a couple of times and front rim size was never an issue or mentioned. Also, there are several rail type dune buggies that run around here with spindle mount front tires that are very skinny and there doesn't seem to be a problem. But then this is Alabama and there are no vehicle inspections.

well lets put it this way- would a 4 inch rim regardless of whether its legal or not cut it for almost daily street use or I am really pushing it in terms of breakage or bending? The street lites have a pretty strong design so im hoping they will be ok as 6 inch wide on the front totally kills the look im going after...also, how would handling be with the 4 inch rim? i aint lookin to corner carve but you never now how you may have to drive sometimes on the street

I don't believe there is a set spec in regulation 611 of the highway traffic act in Ontario.

Look at the front wheels on a smart car. Or a Festiva. Austin Mini?

Need I go on? :D

I have seen lots of guys around running 3.5" or 4" wheels with little or no hassle from the constabulary.

true very very true.....now would 4" wheels be kinda bad for durability? i mean obviously they arent a 6 inch wheel, but will i be okay driving them on the street everywhere?

I ran 3.5" Centerlines for years on my "driver". I ran down I-75 at 60-65 (55mph speed limit then) and in Tampa, Fl traffic with no worries, was more concerned with the M&H cheater slicks than the skinnies on the front.....

You could phone the wheel manufacture to find out for sure but if my memory serves me there is a sticker on the weld 3.5's that says not for highway use. Now that did not stop me from running them but i have been on the 401 in Toronto not sure i would drive there with 3.5 you guys are crazy drivers the speed limit is just a recommendation out there for sure

I believe 3.5 is not allowed but 4" is OK. I think VW Bugs have 4" rims, or 4.5".

I have 4" rims on the front but I have yet to drive my car, there are quite a few guys with mustangs/camaros that I know and have seen with skinnies on the front, so I dont think you have anything to worry about.

There isn't a minimum width that I'm aware of. I had 3.5" wide Weld rims on the front of mine for years and never had a problem. I have 4" on it now, only b/c I switched to Centerlines that only came in 4" at the time.

man finding the size i need for the fronts is fuckin impossible! only one place has them and they are some german tire that costs 140 a pop (67 beetle tire size 165HR15- they are bias plies since i cant mix radials on the front and the bias plies on the back as its illegal) compared to the exact same size in radial which costs 40 bucks a tire! talk about bullshit
