Is the blue silicone you buy designed to come in contact with water and black is for oil I believe. Me and dad were talking about this and I wanted to know for sure. thanks

As far as blue and black, I don't think there is a difference. Black looks alot neater to me. Red or orange is high heat. Gray seems like factory grade, not really sure.

G.E.'s 100% Silicone [Clear]... Toughest there is.... Bar none.. The high heat stuff, is a different story for headers...

When I worked at the parts store I was told by a Permatex rep. that only the ultra is for oil, but I've used high temp orange on everything at one time or another. I use ultra black now.

Ive been using the Ultra Black for everything (except high heat) for over 10 years now, and no leaking issues... Gray works very well too, but I still use the black. Gray is one of the very few that will work with trans fluid.....
