I want to change the gears in my car, pinion bearing preload spec is 16-28 in-lbs.

I have an inch pound torque wrench but it is a clicker style. Can you effectively use this kind of torque wrench to check pinion bearing preload? It seems like the break away torque would be different than rotational torque.

Rear end is a ford 8.8

you need a beam style to properly set it up..
;)
I agree, you need something thats not the clicker type, beam, I use a dial type, but it needs to read contiuous rolling resistance. The click type will only read the torque needed to start the pinion moving (which can be higher)
