Been reading on here for years, finally joined and now its time to start posting. Been peicing together my foxbody over the last 6 months, and should be finishing it up this winter. Need some input before I order gears. Running a 393w stroker, Glide with a 1.76 first gear, 28 x 10.5 tire. 8.8" rear end. It will be a 1/4 mile car. Should be about 2800 pounds with me in it. Will be spraying about a 250 shot through a plate. What gears would you guys run? Don't have a convertor yet so any recommendation as far as that goes would be great also thanks.

What is your goal. Max rpm. How much power do you make n/a. What cylinder head.

Hoping to be at about 7500 rpm at the end of the track, maybe a little more. Should be about 500 n/a. Afr 205 heads. Solid roller motor.

Any top converter company can make a good converter for you. It's best to stick with one that can fine tune it. As for the gear I would start with a 3.73.

I would think 3.90 to 4.10 range.

I agree with the 3.90-4.10's. I would use 3.89's...especially if it is a stock block. I would go with PTC for the converter. Also...you're 1.76 gear set isn't going to like the 250 worth of nitrous.

Why do you say the 1.76 gearset isn't going to like the 250 nitrous?

Weak link.. I know I am on borrowed time with mine and the stock case. around 950hp @ 2900lbs. I just have to make it one more race, and this winter I plan to upgrade to a reid case and 1.80 straight cuts.

Why do you say the 1.76 gearset isn't going to like the 250 nitrous?

It may last 100 passes...it may last 1. Stock gear sets don't like the torque nitrous motors put through them...and when it does let go, it will tear up alot more $$$ than a aftermarket planetary is worth if you buy it now.

Seems for many with similar combo's a 3.89 is very common. Plus gives you a little room to grow into it too.. SJ

I have 4.10s in now with 275s out back. I cross around 7700-7800rpm with an Ultimate Converter Concepts converter and a glide.

Dropping to 3.73s to make some more wheel speed.

Heavy nitrous, 3.73's.... light nitrous 3.90's

Lenny at UCC is great on the nitrous converters, as is a few others..

I just picked up a new car that I will be adding a plate to as it's a cam only ls1 now. I am stuck between a 3.73 and a 3.90. I'd rather not run out of gear, as I do plan on upping the shot from 150 at first to 200.

I run 3.73s with my AFRs 205s. Best E.T. to date is a 5.60 @ 123 in the 1/8 mile (3100 lbs).
