Dropped my 400 block off at the shop for test and check. Was looking at 406 or 421 rotating assy. Shop said they could get a forged kit for $2300 for either size "just let them know". That seems a little high to me with just looking around on the net. Is that right or can I get a good quality kit at a cheaper cost?

Be sure to ask what your getting so they don't sell you some junk. Get part numbers and call manufactures to verify if it will work with your setup.

You should also post that information here and ask for member help on your items.

I had some company trying to sell me some Dart 400CC Pro 1 heads. The price was way cheap and they gave me a part number for the Dart 400CC Pro 2. I called Dart and after talking with them they said to stay away from the Pro 1 heads, they can leak and have been discontinued.

Around $1800 has been the going price I have found for Eagle, Scat and a couple other places. so for them to get it for me is the extra $500. That still sounds kinda high to me. Is there anywhere anybody can suggest to get a decent deal on a good rotating assy?

You probably have more to think about than just the cost and weather $2300.00 is good for either. I agree you should definately make sure you know what brands you are paying for.
I have a SCAT 4340 Crank, Manley Rods and Ross pistons that I did not buy as an assembly, and paid about 2K to put in a 406.

Is this a street car, or a race car?

If you intend on racing it you might consider the cylinder head needs.
The 406 will do ok with a 23 deg head. If you want to feed the 421 an 18 deg head would be what you need.

If this is going to be a dedicated pump gas street car and you aren't worried about max power etc, Heads won't matter so much.

Friend of mine has a 79 Camaro with a 421 with a tunnel ram, 2X4, and runs Dart 230cc Iron Eagle heads and a relatively mild solid roller and it has went 9.90 at 3100+ lbs....he is putting this motor in a 95 chromoly tube chassis Camaro next year that is only gonna weigh about 2200 lbs....he is expecting 8.50's out of it.

The car is going to be a race car with the option of a few miles on the street. I am shooting for 10's if possible with the build. I have a set of Brodix track 1's with mild port work as heads. Looking for around 12.5 compression, solid roller cam. The car is already set up just need the engine to complete the package.
