I put vortecs on my 357 and OMG did they wake up that little bullet. Went from running 14.02 with the factory 882 castings to 12.56 and all I did was bolt on the vortecs with 2.02/1.60 valves. Make great torque but they dont like alot of duration. I'd say you got an easy 425hp atleast. Just my humble opinion

I don’t know much about oval track engines, but that cam with 1.94 vortec heads and 9 to 1 compression makes 330hp in the Gm crate motor.

^ This. I've never seen actual proven dyno results that yielded 450 crank HP from a modest build using those heads.

That's quite a gain right there. Like putting a 125 shot on the engine without having to fill the bottle all the time.

A little over 400. The best we did with basically the same setup, but with a cast iron intake, and junk heads was 379, and one did 392. Hydraulic flat tappet cam. Most were in the 360 hp range.

should make 450hp easy.
I cant tell if this is a joke?

I also dont understand the question? What are you doing to the heads? A 350 with those heads and that cam makes like 350hp in crate engine.

I have a 406 with aftermarket vortecs(200cc), way bigger cam, and a super victor and I might make 450hp.

I doubt it’s a joke. But 450 hp out of a 355 may be a stretch. But 400 is absolutely possible. I’d be disappointed if it didn’t make 400 hp.

I see you get a decent intake , headers too ? unless you can increase compression ,retard cam , better rings , pan evacs run it a quart low on oil yada yada I don't think your over 350 hp .

Those engines only make about 355 with a 4 barrel I would say about 290 horse

Well, all I know is in Wissota B/Mod, there ain’t a competitive engine up there that’s under 365 hp, and they are limited to 9.5 compression, a set of junk truck heads, your not even allowed the 461, or 462 heads, (and I’ve seen the vortec be .3 better then the phase 2 bow tie In the 1/8th mile in drag racing,) cast iron intake, hydraulic flat tappet cam, under .500 lift, 2.02 valves, Holley 500 2 barrel, and with the right ring package, and a good machinist, they get close to 400 hp. And I seen it on 3 different dynos. So, who knows. And he’s got a lot better intake. Let an NHRA stocker guy have that combo, and it would shock us all.

No it's no joke. Last year I built a mild 406 with stock Vortec heads and the guy made 462hp with it. Figure maybe 20hp less on a 10 to 1 355. I made 480hp with mild ported Bowtie heads an I think a set of Vortecs would make 450. Those heads are pretty good out of the box. One of the big keys is the valve job. The more you spend on that alone will reap big rewards. Take a look at what some of the guys on Speedtalk have made with 50° valve job on Vortec heads, you will be surprised.

Randy that 602 cam specs are 212-222 @ 050 that and he might have to run log manifolds

True, but I think for sure, if he ran the 2.5” vette manifolds from the 60’s, he’d be able to achieve the magic number. The cam is restrictive, but a lot more going for it in the induction department. And a properly done 2 barrel will surprise a lot of folk.

Your math don't track....a 462HP 406 is about 1.15HP per cubic inch....on a 51 cubic inch smaller 355 you are already down 55 HP from what the 406 made.

No way this 355 combo makes 450 HP....410 HP is going to be a stretch.
