Here in NC, our maximum gas tax just became the minimum, with no cap on how high they can raise it. Our sales taxes are getting ready to go up again too.

Thank god people keep putting democrats in office, I dont know what I would do with all my "extra" money. ~rolleyes~

Many counties in SC have raised the sales tax including mine. They call it a hospitality tax. The state raised the sales tax a penny but they also dropped the real estate tax to go with that. Too soon to tell if that helps the homeowner.

Property values are down, they have to raise revenue somehow.

How many states have personal property tax rolled into their license plate fees?

Here in AZ, we get to pay sales tax when we buy a new car or truck, then we get to pay personal property tax on top of that in order to get license plates. And then of course, you get to continue to pay the personal property tax every year in order to get a new little sticker for your plate.

Do all the other states work it that way?

It was $58 for me to renew my registration here in NC, so I don't think it includes the property tax.

How can they get away with a property tax anyway? You pay taxes on it when you buy it, why do you have to pay more taxes each year just because you own it?

It's Arizona's special way of squeezing more tax money out of everybody.
As the vehicle depreciates, the cost for the plates does go down.
I'm paying an additional $2,200 per year just in license plate fees - AFTER I already paid 8.25% sales tax on the original purchase.

Phuckin' Kansas is the same way. Go buy a new vehicle and get bent over year after year. :(

Nevada went up today and all of the cities in Los Angeles County, CA. Most now are 9.75 but a few went to 10.75.

I just found out today that there are a few states - I think in New England - that don't have sales tax.
