They say the second ring should be slightly larger so gasses can escape to the crank case instead of getting caught between the rings and cause flutter .
So if the second ring is the same as the top and it opens slightly more then it's a good thing

I’m pretty confident that in a boosted or N2O combination, you could set top and second ring identical and heat generated at the piston lid will make the top ring gap smaller and the second ring gap “appear” to be considerably larger.
