Notes: Great car count; 18 in each class. The most we have had in three years. While the car count wasn’t a record in either class the bumps spots in both classes were the best ever in Asphalt Wars competition. Moose Danes 4.0620 in Open Body bettered Mark Blivens’4.0658 from 2012 and in the Door Cars Jackie Slone’s 4.2485 was quicker than Pat Moore’s 4.266 from 2009.

Paul Molnar has got to be itching to get back in his car. Mike DiDomenico took the ET record away from Paul and Dave Quisenberry back in June and this race Eric Vollmer snatched the speed record with a 197.69 in the second round of qualifying.
Mike Stawicki’s first visit to Asphalt Wars ended early when the team found a valve that was losing lash and getting ready to drop. Unfortunately too many racers have seen the damage a dropped valve can cause so Mike decided to do the smart thing and quit while he was ahead. Hope to see Mike return for another visit.

Stawicki’s misfortune was Pete Ignatovic’s good luck. Pete was second alternate and got in the show due to Stawicki’s problems and those of Harpo Martino who decided against taking the alternate slot. Ignatovic banged out a pair of 4.23’s in eliminations to earn a spot in the final, which got rained out.

Gary Grainer advanced to his second final round of the season and in doing so he took over the lead in the points. Gary also led qualifying in the first round until Mark Malcuit, who was the last car down the track in Q-1 took it away.

Mike Didomenico clinched the points title with his third straight final round appearance. When the decision was made to split the purse in the final it was also decided to split the points. Winner and runner-up points were added together and split, and then the respective qualifying points were added to each drivers total. Mike has a 148.5 point lead over second place Keith McLennan. The maximum points that can be earned at a race is 108 so obviously Mike cannot be caught.

Another first for Asphalt Wars, two drivers ran in the 3.6’s. DiDomenico did it twice, 3.67 in Q-2 and 3.68 in E-1. Eric Vollmer qualified with a 3.69. Some other drivers who ran the best they have ever run in Asphalt Wars; Dave Covell and Moose Danes ran 4.05 and 4.06 respectively in qualifying.

Rick Rokosky builds the trophies that are given to the winners at the Asphalt Wars races. Rick had an extra pair this week because he is planning to be at Pittsburgh for the Bracket Finals Sept 20th, which is the date of the final Asphalt Wars race. Rick decided to give each of the four finalists a trophy this week and he will build another set for the Sep 20 race. Rick organizes the Junior Jam event at Thompson and many of the Asphalt Wars racers sponsor and support that event.

I'd like to thank the Asphalt Wars racers and staff at Thompson for the trophy, plaque and other gifts that they gave me last night. It means a lot to me to know that people that I respect also have respect for me. Too often I am given too much credit for the success of this series. It is the racers that make the series successful. The racers can put on a great show without me but I can't put on a show without them. Thank you all.

There will be a full report on High Octane Racetalk on Cool 101.7 FM in Meadville Monday Aug 18. The show airs from 6-8 PM. I will get the drag racing done in the first half hour. The show also airs on WGRP 940 AM and FAR 1470 AM and is available on the website at http://www.cool1017online.com/
IHRA Fuel Altered driver Don Blackshear will be our guest at 7 PM.

BIG bummer for Mclennan to roll the beams in open car.Congrats to DiDomenico and crew.
 didn't roll the beams mike,(ok I guess you could say that) the T brake just doesn't want to hold under starting line power and we don't know why yet. but we will get it fixed before the next one:rolleyes: and yes mike was flying(so was just about everybody down there) great show !

What about ols?
Sorry, I dropped the ball on that again. 36 cars keeps me pretty busy and we had an extra issue that I had to deal with this week that took a lot of time. I need to talk to Krystal and see how we can do this better. Maybe we can get one of the RRA people to act as a pit reporter/stat guy and get the information to me. We'll work on it. Sorry.
