I have been reading on here that a motor that is running now with a Top Moly ring needs to be replace with a Hell Fire type ring, when spraying more than 200 hp of gas. I have a 540 that has a low amount of runs on it. The question I have is " Do you just replace the top ring, cut the right of end gap and reinstall back into the motor without re-honing the bore?" If this is the nornmal, then how is the person getting the rings to seal? Please let me know and who has the best price on just the top ring for a 4.500 bore 1/16 thick ring?

Thanks Clifford

Hellfires require a rough hone, and dry install to seat properly. So, to answer your question, no you can't just replace the moly's with them.

On another note, NOS is rated without consideration to cubic inches. That 200 shot has alot more cylinder pressure, and heat, on a 350, then it will on your 540.
