I would like to know some recommendations for the gear on my bracket car.

88 Mustang - 2600lbs less driver
412 SBC
Powerglide
4800 Stall
8.8 Rear
275/60R15 Tires (MT ET Street Radial Pro)
Cam: .561/.582 - 298/308 (Not sure what RPMs the cam covers, cam is really old)

I have ran this car with a 3.27 stock gear at the track. Leaving off the foot brake (3000rpm) and shifting at 6200 the car ran a best 6.91 @ 100.73mph. I was surprised that the car ran that quickly with the stock gear, and thought if I could lower the gear and left off the brake it would pick up quite a bit. I have recently installed Moser axles, spool, transbrake, and a 4.56 gear. With the 4.56 gear and leaving off the brake anywhere between 3400-4400 rpm it has a best of 6.87 @ 99mph. It is confusing to me that going to a lower gear only picked up .04 in the 1/8th. What gear would you guys recommend, maybe I made an error in going all the way to 4.56?

The lower gear will automatically change how the conv stalls ----- meaning you'll lose some torque multiplication since the engine isn't working the conv as hard with the lower gear Vs the OEM 3.27 ring and pinion.

What rpm are you making the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts?
