Gebhardt's Pro Cars up in Jacksonville (Rich, not the bitch) did the GMC back in 97.

I was totally happy with their work although they took about 2 months longer than they said they would.

I forgot to have them do tubs, and took it over to the losers at Jeffer's Pro Cars in St. Louis. They did such a shitty job that the right rear tub distorted on launch, caught the tire, spat it out and I ran over it.

So yeah, we've all been screwed at some point. I built my own tubs after that, and they're actually in there secure, imagine that.

Your Sh--ing me Jeffers was one of the shops I took my cat to after the first shop screwed things up, They put a great roll cage in,tubes are nice, streched rear 1/4 and painted, but the ladder bars were none functioning and I had to take to another shop to have that coorected, I will tell you the biggest mistake was taken car to Chicago High Speed Welding to have a strut front put on, It took many months longer to do then it was supposed to, looked like crap, struts arms twisted and broke taking car off the trailer, luckly I wasn't going down the track.

To answer your 1st question, 50% will be about it (If you find someone in the mood to spend)

As far as shops doing poor work;

The more shops I deal with the more projects I take on and learn to do myself. The last time I took a car to a chassis shop I very politely said

"I am a firm beliver in a fair exchange, You want to be paid for your time, and I want a functional, quality job I can be proud to show people, and tell them you did it. So as long as you are ok with that expectation, and that I won't give away my money if the work isn't done, and done right, I'll give you 50% now and the rest upon completion" The response I got was "I'll give you a call when a slot opens up"...never heard from the guy again.

This was a shop I took my car to after another shop screwed it up. This second guy had already looked at the work and agreed it was crap. Guess he didn't trust his own work enough to risk doing business with someone that would hold him to his word.

Now a buddy and I both do this ourselves, things were pretty rough looking at 1st, but functional. A few years later we do some half way decent work for ourselves.

Pisses you off to pay top buck for crap huh?

I agree I recently re-wired my car, I used the Spaghette Wire System, and Wow was that easy and a great product, I would call the owner Joe almost every night asking questions and he was very patient, very nice, I wish everything I had done on my car went so smoothly.

I try to do everything myself first. Then if I can't get it right I take it to the shop to get "fixed". The only thing I have not done myself was the cage cause I didn't own a welder at the time it was installed. Everything else, including paint and body, all done in my little 2 car garage.

50% sounds about right for todays economy, Really sucks!!!!

The worst part is that 50% only inlcludes what it cost to build the first time. It doesn't include the 2nd or 3rd time you had to pay someone to fix others mistakes. I have found that the best thing to do with the race car is to throw away all receipts as soon as parts hit the door......I don't even want to know how much money I waste anymore. LOL
