i have a roots blown bbc that i tore down after 16 passes. i found the pin in the end of the camshaft broken and the three bolts that hold the timing gear on bent. is there a recommended procedure to keep this from happening. i drive the fuel pump off of the camshaft, so there is the spud for that bolted the the timing gear. should i just get better bolts for the cam gear or is there something else i can try? thanks

If the bolts were bent they became loose. If they were tight they would have sheared. See if you can incorporate a bend over type cam bolt locking plate, I have had good luck with them. Or else safety wire. Also grade 8 or better bolts.

Jesel belt drive will fix the problem too :) My center bolt that holds the upper gear on is a allen head bolt that drives the fuel pump .
