Im changing from a dual stage plate to a single stage fogger this year and Im unsure which way to go. I would like some advise from you guys running BBs with a big single stage on a small tire, which one works better, a progressive or just a 7531 box?

I have found that I can manage power easier with just the progressive. I have both (progressive and a 7531) and for me it is easier to get the car down the track with the progressive only.

Is anyone using just a 7531 on a single big stage, around 1300- 1400 hp total.

Yes, and it is fine. I have run the '69 665 with 34N 26F taking out as much as 8*-10* in the Launch Retard for .6-.8 second Ramp, i.e. total timing @ 8-10*, and then back to 18*. No problems...4.94 @ 144 @ 3050#...hardly affected the ET & MPH with no Launch Retard & Ramp!

Oh, I've had both Progressive & 7531, & much prefer the 7531...had problems with sticky N20 Noids from pulsing...that was in my '71 Camaro with previous motor a 540 with 24* head.

I like the progressive, but it can be done with timing too. The main thing I liked about the progressive is that your control is based on time not RPM. There are ways to control the 7531 based on time but it gets a little more confusing for some.

IIFC the new MSD stuff will have the ability to program timing curves based on time which would be the cat's ass.

100% correct! We ran the 7531 on the Andy's 565 X275 Camaro last year and struggled on less than perfect tracks, this year with the addition of the NMS-1000 Nitrous Controller from Sebastian I am positive we will be more consistant. The Camaro has been 5.18/135 with .3 delay on the hit and just using the 7531 to control timing but I think the Nitrous Controller will give you what you are looking for if you do not already have a 7531.

Yes, 1500+ on 28 and 29.5 slicks. Only use the step retards on timers.

Is everyone running controlers still running safety solenoids? Havent fooled with one for years and that my biggest fear of using one and the fact that after reading the threads on here most seem to agree they dont work very well under 30%.

no need for the "saftey" solinoid as long as you got teflon plungers. IMHO if you need to go less than 30% there is another problem.

Gary, the #s I quoted on ET etc & Timing were with the '69 on 33 x 10.5 tires on an "average" track. The '69 did not work well with the 29.5 TTF tires (went 4.99 hazing the tires the entire pass), even taking timing out via the 7531 box, but that is because the car's suspension is not suited for that small tire (old style 4 link with minimal adjustability, per Madman), AND the track testing was on a "below average" track in the heat of the summer (July) with track temps about 120*-130*!

Good luck.

Where's the CONFUSION?????
I was talking about wiring the time switch to the step retard then using the "Ramp off" time plus the time switch timer. Some people find it a bit confusing to figure it out. Then aften if you can figure out how to wire a 7531 then you should be able to get that squared away.

The confusion seems to be with Running Duck, won't put his money where his mouth is. LOL

There is a problem, the car this is going on loves the rear bumper. The solenoids do have Teflon plungers, what kind of life expectancy am I looking at for the solenoids with a progressive?
