I just took out a set of NGK #8 projected tip and they seemed alitte on the lean(white) side so I put in the next colder (#9) and the reading is worse really white look unused. Did I go the wrong way on the number? I didn't think so Timming is @38 total

A -9 is colder than a -8, can't come out whiter than the -8. Something else is your problem. Post your combo in full..........

Just because they are white, does not mean they are lean.... whiteness has nothing to do with leaness.......

The only way to see the mixture is with the fuel ring position, and color, near the base of the porcelain....

Post some pics but the pics won't be that detailed.

Sorry to nudge in on the post, but what is it that leaves a white residue on plugs? Kind of confusing when the fuel ring is perfect down in the porceline. I've noticed it running Q16 on my Windsor. Is it just in the type of fuel???

Well I thought I'd check the timing and looks like I was @40deg total.pulled some degs. out (38deg) and plugs look decent now. Sometimes it's the easiest stuff. Thanx to all............
