Has anyone had success when freshening engine if bores are straight, using a ball hone or 3 leg honing tool to hone block and rings seal good? I am using total seal ap rings. Iron block.

Thanks,

I see it all the time at the track.. Hurt a cyl and ball hone it and new piston and rings.. My previous motor was ball honed with engine pro rings and it leaked less then 5% (but was also never hurt and was probably torque plate honed by previous owner).. My local builder believes in ball hone on freshen up time if you dont know what was used to hone block originally..

I use the same ring and I would not run a ball hone on a fresh bore, that ring likes a certain finish that you are not going to get with a ball hone. I have used a ball hone in a pinch(at the track).

Cylinder wall finish is critical with the AP ring. Give Keith Jones a call at Total Seal and he will give you all the information you need.
