is there a discernible difference in the factory piston release springs for the forward/direct drums in a 400?

The only difference was in the early transmissions and the springs were color coded. For the most part they are the same.


Hutch
have one green set, the rest are black, and oddly, i have one set that the coils are the opposite direction.

Early ones like hutch mentioned (green ones) were slightly longer.

are you saying the 400 has two different length springs?

all the 400's that i have worked on always had same length spring, about 1.3 in length
I'm saying, vaguely that the TH400 FWD/DIR springs are all about the same, yet differ in coil count (length) by a turn. Some are an inch, othrs are 1.2, and Some are 1.3". Not the SAME huh

Best effort is to use springs than are all the same length, or similar equal-length staggering if it comes to that.

4L80 piston uses a much shorter spring. Rebuilds can alter these events as the builder sees fit.
