Friend is resurrecting a Spitzer dragster for bracket racing, or who knows what. It has a 468 BBC with Bac-Man Billet symmetrical heads, 10-71 supercharger on alcohol. This combination ran for several years with this set up, but not recently. Ignition is a Mallory 3 amp mag and transformer. The mag got fried.(Think it got hooked up to 12 volts and melted the external wires and mag smells like burned inside.) He wants to get it repaired. Who in the Indiana/Illinois can rebuild it? I have access to a complete MSD 8 ignition. Would this work well on this engine? He thinks it has to have a mag for blown alcohol. What other current mag would be good?

Mark,
You know this already but unless the guy is setting it up with a proper alternator system the chances of him having consistent success with the 8 diminishes.
Best bet is to get the 3 freshened and updated since he leans in that direction anyway.
There is actually something to be said for alky and mags. Blowers just step the case up.

The MSD 8 plus will run circles around that old mag. Will put out way more millijoules of energy to the plug than that mag could even dream of. Been there done that and it's time to move on from that 30 plus year old mag.

All the old mags and even the newer MSD ProMag 12 and 20 are still behind the MSD8 plus in energy ( millijoules) delivered to the plug. It would take 44 to get ahead of the 8 Plus.
