Street/strip.....define this. Race car on the street, street car that races a few times a year but I drive to work, a huge difference here.

Since you already have cubic inches and cylinder decided....Build it from there within your RPM costriants. I don't know measurements on an AFR210 head so I don't know what the optimal RPM range will be.

You can do a mild 383 that will run in the 9's @3300 race weight, same basic build in a 400 will run 8.30's @1850 race weight

Work the 210's and put a super Vic on it! Anything over 600 HP shit won't last. And if you wanna do 9 sec you need more than that @ 3300#s!

With a 3900 RPM stall first day out went 6.68/10.15 ET's at 3310 race weight, TH350 footbrake with 4.10's and 30" radials 1.44-1.47 60' times. Engine combo below, heads flow over 300cfm. New proper converter knocking on mid 9's (I want to do the same combo but set up for a 150HP shot!)

Kept running faster and faster going up 200 RPM on the shift point, stopped at 7800 RPM shift point.

- GM block, Hardblok to bottom of water pump holes, modified oiling system, pressurized thrust face oiling, ARP main studs, billet main caps
- Scat 3.75" stroke 4340 crank
- Scat I Beam Pro Comp Rods 6"
- Probe Moleculite Piston's 343 grams 11.2:1 compression 1.2mm top ring, 1.5mm napier second, 3.0mm 9 pound oil ring
- Pro Filer 210 heads I prepped for 2.08" intake valves, prepped exhaust bowls
- 1.55" springs 285 seat/750 open (2 years on the street before hitting the track, no loss) with steel retainers
- Crane billet timing set
- Dart as cast single plane intake
- LGM shaft rockers 1.6/1.5
- 3/8" Heavy Wall Pushrod's (Would prefer 7/16")
- Pro Systems 1000 HP Holley bored and modified metering blocks

This camshaft which we have used more times than I can count, it's been 8.30's/8.40's at 1850 race weight with "as cast" Dart Pro 1 215 heads bowl ported which are not in the same ZIP Code compared against as cast Pro Filer's
290/306 @.020" tappet lift
260/268 @.050" tappet lift
184/183 @.200" tappet lift
.715"/.625" lift before lash
.703"/.607" before lash
.012"/.018" valve lash
106° lobe center

Have another fellow on this forum I sent a set of Pro Filer 2.055" valved heads too for a 400 small block, with about the same weight but a Power Glide and he has only launched from an idle, and from an idle has been 10.29 @129.52mph. He has video and pics where he launched with the Transbrake and it blew the tires off and you could see where it lifted the rubber off the concrete, cam in that build below (I did not build this one, just spec'd it, I built the one listed above)
298/314 @.020" tappet lift
268/276 @.050" tappet lift
191/190 @.200" tappet lift
.715"/.666" lift before lash
.703"/.648" lift after lash
.012"/.018" lash
106° lobe center
4/7 swap

Both engines have a ton of power left in them with porting, more camshaft and more RPM

I never said the combo he listed would run 9's, the somewhat mild 383 combo we have been doing has proven itself to do so with minimal work. Yes its shaft mounts and .700"+ lift but everything is available off the shelf and there is not much exotic work done. One might think the shaft mounts however LGM shaft mounts are competitive with buying good Roller Rockers, Guide Plates, Rocker Arm Stud's & Stud Girdle's

There's rumors going around YB that the only reason those cars went so fast was because of the 4/7 swap and the needle and seat where indexed at 6 o'clock on the primary bowl and 12 o'clock on the secondaries . I figured out ur secrets!

Maybe if you try doing A-B-A testing like we did, you would find the gains we did indexing the needle and seats. In the needle and seat bash thread, a poster stated even though he listens to "others" here he tried it for the hell of it and his car picked up at least .05 from indexing the needle and seats. It has to do with helping to maintain a more stable AFR by not foaming the fuel in the fuel bowl

has been vindicated.

For all those that mocked Butch when he has offered carb advice, suggesting that the N/S be indexed to the bowl window, be advised that noted carb and engine builder John Kyle aka Advance Product Design Carburetors www.apdracing.com advises this as well in a video presentation when using Holley bowls on his new website...

yeah.. most 'mild' 383's cant get out of their own way.

Mine might have run 9.9's in perfect air and more tuning at 3200lb and I wouldn't describe it as mild, just low budget.. but I'll never know. ran 10.20's in 90-93+ degree air, high humidity...
To go 9's the chassis needs to be setup pretty good especially with a lower hp sb and 60ft in the mid 1.3's or better.

decent set of heads, good cam and manifold with the right converter you could probably hit 9's at 3000lb in good air.

what is the et goal for this?
