i know this has probably been covered before but im wanting to convert my 72 nova to rack & pinion this winter. i have been told to use the 71-72 pinto rack. anybody here done their own conversion or have pics? thanks for the help!

did you use the stock steering arms?
how high or low does the rack mount in relation to the steering arms? to where the tie rods are level?
on a camaro or nova should the steering shaft pass through the engine crossmember? or should i position the rack so the the shaft passes above the crossmember ?

Yes, Switched steering arms side to side.There are some aftermarket ones though.

You want the rack center line, centered with the inner control arm bushings bolts and the ties rods need to be centered with the ball joint (ball pivot). That will get you close on bump steer but will have to check and adjust tie rods up or down.

Either or on the steering shaft most I do go through K-member.

i seen david lemmond's steering arms, who else makes them? what are the advantages of the aftermarket ones?

do i have to use anytype of bushing in the steering arms? what type of bolt or pin do i use to connect the heim joints on the tierods to the steering arms?

yea, this is helping me a great deal. i dont know much at all about this setup. thanks for helping me.

Aftermarket arms are lighter and make bump sterr better?

Depends on what size rod end you use for the tie rod I drill the stock arms out 5/8 or 3/4.
