What ever happened to the old yellow one? That thing was a beast
Randy Moore had it built first. He also owned the mold to the body. He sold it then it was painted solid red. Joey Moore in Alabama who was no relation to Randy had painted yellow with flames. Greg James from Extreme Performance Engines n Australia bought it around 2005 and its repainted similar to how it first looked out of Kilby's KCD shop. Runs it is Super Charged Outlaws class with a blown small block and Lenco.

I'd think about something like a 6.30 index or some rpm limits. When overdrive limits came in and people figured out how to turn them 10500 is when things went crazy.... just so people worth less than 5 million can run one.

Preliminary Rules For Nostalgia Pro Mod Series For 2019/2020
Nostalgia Pro Mod Association (NPMA) Class Rules
Revision 1.1 - 07/18/2019
DESIGNATION: Pro Mod (PM) followed by car number. Numbers must be at least 4” tall and on both side windows, upper left of rear window and upper right of windshield.
FIELD: 16 car qualified field. NHRA Pro Style Ladder on a .400 Pro Tree Class Sponsor Decals required on both sides of the vehicle, front fender or hood scoop. NPMA Logo required on both sides of the vehicle. All rules subject to change at the sole discretion of the NPMA Technical Committee.
REQUIREMENTS AND SPECIFICATIONS BODY: Funny car or one piece bodies not allowed even if equipped with doors. American production vehicles with body style 1999 or older. (not manufacture date of aftermarket body) Maximum front end overhang of 45” as measured from centerline of front spindles. An NPMA accepted extension may be used to reach 45” if the front end overhang of the body is less than 45”. All bodies must be original or composite duplicates from a production vehicle. All cars must be accepted by the NPMA competition department prior to being approved for competition. Radical body modifications effecting height, width, length or contour will not be approved. All vehicles must be professionally finished, painted, lettered, numbered and decaled.
DOORS: Required. Doors must be functional and able to be opened from both the inside and outside of the vehicle. Doors may be fabricated from carbon fiber, fiberglass or metal. A metal deflector between the fenders and the leading edge of the doors is required.
FIREWALL: Magnesium, aluminum or composite not allowed. All firewalls must be made of steel or titanium .024” minimum thickness.
FRAME: Chassis must meet approved SFI Spec for speed and ET, and have applicable SFI specialized sticker affixed to roll cage before participation. A panel of .032-inch aluminum, .024-inch steel, or carbon fiber must be installed on the inside portion of the roll cage anywhere the driver's legs can come into contact with the cage. Panels must be installed in the front and lower portion of the drivers-side X brace. Panels must attach to the interior side of the tubing, or no further than the middle of the tubing, with "impact-type" padding attached to the panels. Padding must extend to be flush with X brace. Minimum padding thickness is 1/4 inch. An additional panel(s) of .032-inch aluminum, .024-inch steel or carbon fiber must be installed in the roll cage roof area. The panel(s) must, at minimum, extend from the drivers side roof bar to the centerline of the vehicle. The panel(s) in the Funny Car cage area must be removable for proper chassis certification inspection.
FLOORS: Replacing stock floors with .024” steel or .032” aluminum allowed. Driver’s side floor pan must be .024” steel and must be welded in place extending from firewall to back of driver’s seat. Carbon fiber or aluminum may be utilized in the passenger’s portion of the flooring in the driver’s compartment.
HOOD SCOOP: Allowed. One opening only. Must be finished and painted to follow the bodies paint scheme
TAIL LIGHT: Functional rear tail light is required. Tail light must be permanently mounted and controlled from the driver’s compartment.
WINDOWS AND WINDSHIELD: Required. May be replaced 1/8” inch think lexan, plexiglass or other shatterproof material. An opening with a 4” diameter minimum is required on side windows adjacent to the driver.
CHASSIS
CHASSIS BATTERY: Maximum of two batteries allowed. All batteries must be securely fastened. An external master electrical shut off clearly labeled “PUSH OFF” is required.
BRAKES: Four wheel brakes with dual master cylinder mounted above frame rails required.
CHASSIS: Minimum NHRA SFI Spec certification required for speed and/or ET.
DRIVER LOCATION: Must be in stock location, on left side of vehicle.
GROUND CLEARANCE: Minimum of 3” required from whatever portion of the vehicles body or chassis that breaks staging beam to 12” behind front axle centerline.
STEERING: SFI 42.1 steering wheel disconnect required.
SUSPENSION: Race car type suspension required. Solid suspension prohibited. Shock absorbers required for all four wheels.
TIRES: Automotive type tires designed specifically for racing required. Tires cannot be located outside of bodyline. Manufacturer, model and size information must be clearly designated. No Radial Tires allowed.
WHEEL BASE: Minimum 100″, Maximum 115”. Maximum variation is 2” side to side. Trucks (Full size) 140” , S-10, Dakota Ranger 125”.
WHEELIE BARS: Required. Non-metallic wheels required. Maximum of 104” as measured from centerline of rear housing to center of wheelie bar wheel.
WHEELS: Wheels meeting SFI spec 15.1 mandatory. Use of a liner mandatory on all non bead lock wheels.
DRIVELINE AND ENGINE IGNITION:
Electronic ignition permitted. Single magneto with single spark plug per cylinder. No profiler or Grid allowed. Supercharger entries allowed MSD Six Shooter.
SUPERCHARGED ENGINES:
526 cubic inch maximum limit for supercharged engines. (Tolerance: No more than 2 cubic inches). Cast Roots Style or High Helix superchargers permitted, no billet superchargers permitted, screw type superchargers not permitted. Maximum roots supercharger rotor length limited to 19”. Maximum centrifugal supercharger size limited to 14-71. Minimum weight at conclusion of run, including driver 2700 lbs. 1959 or earlier bodied cars minimum weight 2650. No Automatics. 2 disk non lockup clutch, 3 forward speeds, clutch release must be manually operated by drivers foot. No electronics, pneumatics, hydraulics, or any other device may in any way affect the clutch operation. Shifting must be manually operated by driver’s hand.
HEADS: Hemi, canted-valve, or wedge heads permitted. BRAD 8 heads and equivalent or older allowed, Billet heads permitted. Maximum one spark plug per cylinder. Maximum supercharged valve sizes: intake 2.500 Inches; exhaust 2:00 Inches.
OVERDRIVE LIMITATIONS: 14-71 Standard Helix 50%; 14-71 High Helix Combinations 20%
SUPERCHARGERS: ROOTS TYPE: Maximum size permitted 14-71; 19 inch maximum rotor case length; 11 ¼ inch maximum case width, ¼ minimum case thickness, ¼ inch minimum front plate thickness, .300 minimum rear plate thickness, Maximum rotor cavity diameter Is 5.840 inches. Rotor helix angle may not exceed that of a standard 71 series GM type rotor (4 degrees per inch). Maximum overdrive may not exceed 70 percent. Manifold burst panel and restraints required.
ROOTS-TYPE HIGH HELIX: Must adhere to same maximum case dimensions and maximum rotor cavity diameter as standard roots. Rotor helix angle may not exceed 6.5 degrees per inch (123.5 degrees total over 19 inches maximum rotor length). Maximum overdrive may not exceed 70 percent. Manifold burst panel and restraints required.
NITROUS OXIDE ENGINES: Maximum 5.0 bore space, 780 cubic inch maximum (Tolerance: No more than 2 cubic inches). Maximum 6 nitrous solenoids passing into manifold system. No EFI allowed. Carburetors only. Minimum weight at conclusion of run, including driver 2450 lbs. 1959 or earlier bodied cars minimum weight 2400. No Automatics. 3 disk non lockup clutch, 5 forward speeds, clutch release must be manually operated by drivers foot. No electronics, pneumatics, hydraulics, or any other device may in any way affect the clutch operation. Shifting must be manually operated by drivers hand.
NOTE: Nitrous oxide may not be used on or with any supercharged or turbocharged engine.
CLUTCH AND FLYWHEEL: Clutch and flywheel meeting SFI 1.3, 1.4, or 1.5 certification required.
DRIVELINE: A full 360 degree driveshaft tube is required over yoke, extended a minimum of 12” required from transmission tail shaft. Minimum thickness of tube housing is .050” chromemoly or titanium. Two piece units accepted with a minimum of 6 3/8” grade 8 bolts. SFI 43.1 driveshaft required.
ENGINE CONTAINMENT SYSTEM: SFI 7.1 lower engine containment system required. If a flexible 7.1 system is utilized, it must be accompanied by a carbon fiber or aluminum belly pan with a minimum 2” vertical lip.
ENGINE SETBACK: Maximum of 10% of total vehicle wheel base as measured from the centerline of the forward front spindle to center of front spark plug hole.
EXHAUST: Automotive type system designed specifically for racing required. Exhaust gasses must be directed out of the body towards the rear of vehicle and away from the driver and fuel system. No bullhorns allowed. All removable multi-piece exhaust collectors/stacks must be securely fastened with either an NHRA-accepted header tether, a minimum ½” (half-inch) stitch weld located on each primary tube or be permanently attached to the vehicle body or frame with positive fasteners (i.e. exhaust hangers, support brackets, bolts/nuts, etc.) such that they require tools for removal.
HARMONIC BALANCER: SFI 18.1 certification required.
FLYWHEEL SHIELD: SFI 6.3 certification required. .
FUEL: Approved gasoline only. Gasoline or Alcohol with nitrous oxide allowed. Additives prohibited. Nitro Methane prohibited. The use of propylene oxide and nitromethane is prohibited. Gasoline, as defined by the NPMA, is a mixture of hydrocarbons only. The use of methanol fuel is only for naturally aspirated, turbocharged and supercharged engine combinations. Methanol must be pure U.S. federal grades A and AA without the addition of chemicals additives, masking agents or any other substances. The NPMA reserves the right to check fuel at any time during competition.
Failure to pass fuel check is grounds for disallowance of the run during qualifying and also
Disqualification from the event during eliminations. On-board cooling or recirculation systems prohibited.
INTAKE MANIFOLD: An approved burst panel is required on all vehicles.
REAR END: Automotive type, Full-floater rear end required. Titanium Wheel studs prohibited. 4:57 to 1 rear end gear required on supercharger entries. Mark Williams EV4 axle system, or Strange STRL-5500SBB accepted.
STARTER: Required. All entries must be self starting with onboard starter and battery. No push starts allowed.
TRANSMISSION: Planetary design manual transmissions (Lenco style) only. Non planetary design transmissions not permitted. Automatic transmissions not permitted. Lock-up clutch linkage not permitted. Torque converters not permitted. Transmission gear selection must be shifted manually by the driver using air or lever activation only.
SAFETY EQUIPMENT DRIVER RESTRAINT SYSTEM: SFI 16.1 certification required (7 point system recommended).
FIRE SYSTEM: SFI 17.1 system required. System must contain a minimum of 20 lbs of fluid or gas fire suppression agent. One nozzle required inside driver’s compartment must be directed at driver’s feet. Two or more nozzles must be directed at front of engine and fuel cell. All fire suppression must be released with a single actuation (i.e. single handle, button or lever).
HEAD AND NECK RESTRAINT: SFI 38.1 required. An aluminum skid plate located above driver’s head is recommended.
HELMET: SN-2010 or newer, SFI 31.2 or 41.2 required. Use of open face helmet prohibited. Eject Helmet Removal System (Part # SDR 890-01-30) or equivalent required. MASTER ELECTRICAL CUTOFF: Required. Must be clearly labeled “PUSH OFF”. PARACHUTES: Dual parachutes required. Separate shroud-line mounting points with 1/2” sleeved grade 8 bolts required.
PROTECTIVE CLOTHING: A driver’s suit meeting SFI 3.2A/15, gloves meeting SFI 3.3/15, shoes meeting SFI 3.3/15 and a head sock meeting SFI 3.3 required. A head sock is not required when a helmet manufactured with a skirt meeting SFI 3.3 is used.
ROLL BAR PADDING: SFI 45.1 required.
TRANSMISSION: All transmissions must be covered by a one piece SFI 4.1 restraint.
UPHOLSTERY: Driver’s seat foamed with energy absorbing material, formed for the driver and covered with flame retardant material is required. Lateral helmet supports required.WINDOW NET: SFI 27.1 required.
DELAY BOXES/DEVICES: Prohibited in Nostalgia Pro Mod
MISCELLANEOUS CREDENTIALS: A valid competition license is required. A valid NHRA or IHRA competition license will be accepted and may be transferred when presented with a current physical. When an event is contest at an NHRA Member track only NHRA competition licenses will be accepted. COMPUTER: Not allowed.
TRACTION CONTROL: Any type of traction-control device, electronic or mechanical, is prohibited. A traction-control device is any unit or system that uses live data to control functions of the vehicle, such as tire slip, which are not controlled by the driver. These devices are, but not limited to, timing control based on wheel, driveline, or engine acceleration, braking control, throttle control, tire-shake meters, vertical acceleration meters, misfire control, stutter box, relays, and/or rpm-activated chips.
DATA RECORDERS: Data recorders may be used (per Class Requirements) to record functions of a vehicle so long as they do not activate any function on the vehicle. They must be activated by a separate switch. All data recorders manufactured after Jan. 1, 2006, must be NHRA-accepted. A current list of NHRA accepted data recorders is available on NHRARacer.com. Fifth-wheel sensing devices prohibited on all vehicles (includes wheelie-bar wheels). All lines sensing flow, pressure, etc. of fuel or oil must be metallic or steel braided. Ride height sensors prohibited unless specifically permitted by Class Requirements. Any device (mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, optical, etc.) other than OEM-type that assists in determining track location of the competitor’s own vehicle or opponent’s vehicle is prohibited. Only OEM-style mirrors, mounted in conventional fashion, permitted.
STARTING LINE ENGINE CONTROL DEVICES: Two step allowed for Nitrous entries, Pneumatic for Supercharged entries.
TOW VEHICLES: Allowed. A valid driver’s license is required to operate any type of tow vehicle. All passengers must be seated inside of vehicle with all doors closed. Riding in open hatchback, trunk or cargo area not allowed. ATV’s are allowed with a maximum of one passenger who must be seated at all times. Golf carts are allowed with a maximum of four passengers who must be seated at all times. Posted pit speeds must be obeyed at all times. If pit speed is not posted, maximum pit speed will be 5 mph.

How many stick/turbo cars are even out there? 1 or 2?
I know a couple who would prefer to use a clutch but since the converter is so advantageous they put the clutch on the shelf.
Maybe knowing they're going against other clutches may change there mind?

Single 101, small blocks only, Clutch with the poppin and banging sounds bad ass

Nice! So there is 1. Anyone know if Jensen still running a clutch?
Jensen tried a convertor then went back to clutch 3.69 @ 204 not bad for a single turbo SBC .lol my new car will have a clutch so there will be at least 2

3 are 3 current turbo clutch cars that I know of

The point is there are other cars out there that may want to run the series and dust off that old clutch.


Jensen’s been quicker than a .69. His 60’ is pretty staggering as well.

Forgot to add that when the turbo GXP was purchased for Stevie Fast, the car was fitted for a clutch before they came and picked it up. I had seen later that the clutch was forsale on Stevie’s used part emporium website. So that counts as an almost?

I like this concept, but, where are all these clutch cars going to be found with nothing but a six shooter in them?
