Does anyone know for sure it was a light tower they were protecting and not a scissor lift for the cameras? I know they use one on the starting line all camouflaged out with military netting.

Doesn't seem prudent to use about a hundred grand worth of rental mini vans used as barriers to protect a ten or fifteen grand light tower. I could definitely see them doing that to protect a couple camera guys up on a lift though.




To be fair everyone that puts 'em in the beams takes those same risk's.

Does anybody have doubts about that car being able to be rebuilt in that small attached garage. Unless they just took the shell and put in on a new chasis, I wouldn't trust it.

Any time there are careless things done in race cars, it puts the spot light on the entire sport...At that point, the powers that be start looking for more ways to cover their asses...That usually means stricter rules across the board...

There is a HUGE difference between what they are showing, or trying to project and what NHRA racing is doing. NHRA has made it known from the beginning they wouldn't allow this and don't promote it. Hell remember the big pissing match they got into when they threatened to pull driver's licenses and numbers if they showed up on cars on TV? Then there was some kind of Love Fest and Chief was welcomed in to run ProMod.

If NHRA guidelines were followed just about safety equipment it would be better for those guys. But it isn't on the street shows. So it is on those in the cars. It is probably going to be someone like JJ who does end up getting seriously hurt or worse, because of his failure to use the safety equipment he should be using. But that is one of those life lessons that some people learn too late to save their life. He has seen and been in enough wrecks to know better but he keeps on pushing his luck.

Gentlemen, the only reason why NHRA is not involved in street racing safety is because the NHRA has not received a big enough check yet...Anyone who thinks otherwise, is just playing tricks on themselves.

Justin's try at Pro Mod and Shawn giving it a go at Duck's race were less than successful outings. Basically they found out where they rank against track racers.

Looks like the safety equipment caught up with JJ da Felon and company though.

Actually, the Murder Nova was competitive in 275, ultimately hitting a 4.28 - within a tenth of the hitters! He also made one of the top passes I've seen at Duck's race. He drove into a power wheelstand at around the 330, kept his foot in it with the front tires 3 ft in the air, and drove it through the 1/8 beams that way going 4.6x on the back tires - place went berserk!
